the auto dimming, inside, rear view mirror...

So, I know there's that button in the middle of the mirror that turns on and off the auto dimming feature.

BUT...

How do I tell if the silly thing is actually working? (please, no comments about driving it at night...

Your inside mirror should "darken" when you activate the dimming button. It should kind of look like what you'd see with the older style mirrors when you flipped the switch from day to night. You're outside drivers mirror should do the same thing. I don't believe it has any control on the passenger mirror. I only use mine at night, that's the only experience I have using it.
