Well we finally go to taking off the heads and oil pan to check on the condition of the bottom end. Well it is bored out to .60 over, I think this makes it a 340 CI now. It has new pistons, rods, and crank (casted) all look good. Cylinder walls are good with only some carbon on the piston heads, but not really bad, appears engine has been running rich, which makes sense.

Everything else was clean and even, cam has one lob with some excessive wear, nothing really bad.

Now the cam is has 280 written on it, does anybody know what that is?

I want to replace cam, has hydrolics on it, any suggestions of a cam? Not looking for race car, but good solid street car, NOT FOR RACING, cruising and show....

Oil pan looks like it has seen better days, so I will replace, looking for 5 quart pan, want to keep it as stock as possible. Again any suggestions, don't want chrome, just keep it looking stock.

Also found in the T-10 transmission, the 2 and 3rd gear went bad, and all four synchos were bad, replaced and rebuilt so it should be like knew.

Needed new bell housing, cracks on case, so I have got that coming in the mail.

Hope to clean and paint engine next week and start re-assembly.

Good news, no decking or machining needed on the block as it is in excellent condition.

I will post photos asap......

REGARDS TO ALL

The Chevy "151" hydraulic cam (from the 327/350 L-79) makes a great street cam, and it's stone reliable, zero-maintenance, and uses all stock GM valvetrain components; decent low-end torque, and the idle is just rumpy enough to be interesting. Scoggin-Dickey Chevrolet (www.SDPC2000.com) has the kit (cam and lifters) as their P/N 12364050 for $99.95.

Thanks for input, but already ordered a Crane Express CAM, I used this before and it's a great cam for the 327. I got about a 282 Duration on it so it will do the job....many thanks for the input, I have heard of that cam before and seen it used recently on a 65 with a 327 and it does sound very good with stock exhaust...Again many thanks.
