There was a front page article on Chevy's new products. Here is what they wrote about the C6:

"A redesigned Corvette, the C6, will make its debut early next year. Cowger showed an early "spy" photo of the car in Traverse City and offered a few details: longer wheelbase, shorter overhangs, fixed headlamps for the first time since 1962, and a smaller Corvette badge, or insignia.

The car will be more powerful than the current model. Cowger's only hint as to how powerful was, "Think about Ted Williams' unmatched feat from 1941 -- his batting average." The late Boston Red Sox slugger's average that year was .406."

To start, I live in Traverse City, Mich. How did I miss this?! Haha. Second, I assume the spy shot they are talking about must be the one Rob posted about. And as of right now, it seems there will be 400 hp in the base model. I was hoping for a bit more.

It's just something you can never have enough of!:L:L:L

Brett:

The Traverse City Event was most likely a busineess seminar for those in the industry, and not advertised or promoted to the general public.

Mr Cowger attended our club's Vette show on August 9th at GM's Tech Center, and his address to the crowd said the same thing about Ted Wiliams Average. :)

Hope this helps.

Yup I was told the base car would muster up 410HP and would be a 6.0L but Chevy might opt to keep that a secret and still call/consider it 5.7 for some reason.

More horse power to the people!!!:upthumbs

Hi All,

Back from 3hrs of arm surgery five weeks ago - I attended a GM "Autoshowinmotion" at El Toro Marine Air station (closed) last Friday. Though the temp on the runways was well in excess of 100 degrees the Z06s were what made the experience "Hot."
Though I've driven several targa C5, this was my first opportunity for a short hot lap in a Z06. Very impressive.

If the targa C6 comes in at 410 hp, and comes close to matching the weight of the current Z06 - count me as very satisfied and in line for a red 6 speed!

Sounds like that would have been a fun event to attend. My guess is the HP for the base model will be very close to your guess. However, I'd be very surprised if the weight got down to that of the Z06. After all, the Z06 went to great lengths to lessen weight (e.g., the titanium exhaust) and I wouldn't expect GM to go to that expense for the base model. Doing so would drive the cost up and the average Vette driver (even if not typical of CAC members) is not interested in wringing the last ounce of performance from their cars. If they were, Z06s would be a much larger percentage of the overall C5 sales.
