The most significant Corvette engine since the first small-block?

From an engine builder's perspective, looking at new OE engine designs almost always leaves us with a trace of self satisfaction and maybe a hint of smugness. Looking over a newly introduced factory powerplant, we may say, "That's a nice piece." Inside, however, the hot-rodder that lives in our consciousness leaves us with a pleasant thought: Nice for a stocker, but I can make it better.

Thanks for the article.

LS7 is definately an awesome engine out of the box. It will be interesting to see what the tuners can pull out of her. I bet there is still another 150-200hp in her. I would expect that anything we see from the current 427s should be able to be met or exceeded by the LS7 427. After the initial learning curve, I bet we might see 650-700 fwhp (550-600rwhp). I've heard of some current LS 427s doing 550 rwhp or better.

Who is going to tell them that the Gen 3 small block is from 97-04???
Gen IV is 2005 LS2, LS7 and DOD truck engines????
Someone has a large typo to fix.

I totally agree! The factory engines usually just touch the edge of what the engine can actually do.

And just wait until someone puts a supercharger on there!:D

Every time I pass by the LS7's setting beside the engine line I just stop and gawk for a few minutes.
