I replaced the front spring on my 86 vert last summer and it brought my front end up , which it needed. I never notice it before but now when I reach 60 MPH my steering wheel just about shakes out of my hands. All through the 60,s it shakes then smooths out at 70 and above. When I drop back into the 60,s the shaking comes back. I have 17 inch 88 style wheels. The rear tires are new.I have no ideal how old the front tires are. I,ve owned this ride for two years. They are Goodyear Gator backs. They look to be in in fair shape. I guess I should have gotten a front end alignment with the spring replacement. Anyone have any ideas.....Thanks for anyone's thoughts...Bob Yates

You said it.

Assuming the front end components are in good shape (no play) get a good 4-wheel alignment and balance the tires.

Search the forum a discussion of the best balance tire balancing machine; more than you ever care to know, most likely.

You could always put the tires you have in back, up front and see if that cures anything. I had the shakes, and it was the tires. I bought new and had a 4 wheel alignment done. However you might be able to take it to discount and have the tires balanced, which might fix your problem. Prices for an alignment range alot. Just find the best price, but make sure it is a good shop. I would get this fixed soon, because it will cause wear on the front end components.

Thanks WhalePirot.... I use to be a GM tech but I'm starting to forget the simple things because in today's world we think of high tech in every problem. If I don't get a failure code on the dash I keep on going. Well, I hope I'm not that bad yet. I'm setting up an appointment first thing Monday. All of my front end is in good shape....Thanks again for knocking the cob webbs out....Bob Yates

Hey Craig...... You must have been reading my mind I was going to do that first. Thats a simple way to check the tires. The two tires I bought I wished I hadn't. There the Goodyear GS1's . They have a really different tread and are not to good on wet roads. That was one of the reasons I replaced them.... Bob Yates
