1966,and a 1962 thats almost complete
Yesterday I am selling some of my older work vans and a fellow comes in to my office, As we are speaking he notices the photos I have on my wall and says he says he has a 59 he has not touched in at least 6 years and what do I think its worth. He was at carlilse this year looking for parts and realised that the parts to restore his car are way out of his means. And he spoke to one of the guys in the car coral who told him the 59 is a worthless year as nobody likes them and it has a low value.

He told me what he had into it ,he purchased it about 8 years ago. Today he is bringing me some digital picture of the car to give him my opinoin on the cars value. I am certainly not going to buy it, I am waiting for my Dad to return my call to see if he wants it. If Not I will place an advertizement here with what I feal is a fair price. Or put him in touch with vette finder jim or proteam as he does not want to advertise it locally and have strangers coming to his house to kick tires

He said he love to have the car sit in the garage as it is beutiful to look at,but hates to drive it as it drives poor, always has a $300.00 bill to get running, leaks oil, leaks water, blows smoke, and smells like a wet goat.

I will keep you posted, But you really have to keep your ear to the ground you just never know where you might find one.

Certainly sounds like he is ready to sell.
If you get some pictures send them to me. I might be interested if the price isn't too high. Been emailing a guy in Massachusetts about a '60 but this one would be a little closer, assuming that this guy is close to you. Where is the car located?

darn. sure wish I had the money to consider it. I'd LOVE to have a '59 or '60.

there are cars around here too but most of them are the same old story..... "no, it's not for sale, i am going to fix it up someday". Meanwhile the car has been sitting in a barn, or a shed, or even worst, outside under a tarp for years and you know it's going to keep sitting there for years until it rots away. But these people won't sell.
Without even thinking hard about it, i know of at least 3 vettes like that around here close to me. I won't even bring up a barn within an hour of me that has 50, yes 50, vettes sitting in it since the mid 70's that the owner doesn't touch and won't sell.

Sounds like the guy he talked to at Carlisle was either a fool or was attempting to pick up the car for nothing. The fact that it is sort of drivable and he says it looks good setting in the garage is interesting.

YUP

In speaking to this fellow it seams he is not aware of the value and any he has spoken to says it a worthless year car.

I am going to his home probably this weekend, The guy just seams like a blue colllar guy like you or me who doesnt want to bother with the car any longer.

he reminds me of Barry k last year having to pay for every repair to the car. i am sure i would get tired of a 40 year old car myself if I had to pay for all of the minor problems these cars give us

yeah, yeah, yeah........... believe me, for what I paid for the C3 would NOT have paid for re-doing the interior of a C1.

i'll tell you another thing...... once I'm done with this car and it's sold I'd rather go back to working on a C2 (or a C1). Last year I once complained that I thought it was cramped trying to work under the hood of my '65 but after working on this C3 I'll never complain about working on the C2 again. Comparatively speaking, the C2 engine bay is cavernous compared to this thing.

Besides Barry, We couldn't survive your "It smells like a wet goat. What do you do for that?" post. (sorry Barry I could not resist.)

Sorry Barry. Read the last line of the original post. "It smells like a wet goat." If you bought it - well - you know. I meant it only in fun as I have learned a whole lot from the info that comes from your posts.

I will join in the hunt here...would dearly love to have a 59 to restore to original. I have a friend who has a 59 I've been wanting to trade him for. His is an original triple turquoise car (he still has the grease pencil code in the back) and he repainted it resale red. I've tried and tried to get him to go back to the turquoise, but he is a red ragtop man from the git-go. If I could rebuild a like 59, he said he might go for the trade. Sooo, if there's a chance, I'd sure like to have the shot. Plus, I live close enough to Barry so he could come down and we could buddy up on the rebuild. He could learn more about the thrill of straight axles and continue an ongoing post about what do we do next!...lol Between Barry and Rick and Tony's Corvette Shop, we'd bring her back proud and be willing to take it back to the owner for a ride.
Barry, I just had my new Conestoga Barn floor poured in concrete. It's 1440 sq ft of work space...come on down!

YOU can do all the posts of "Help!! what do I do now??!!".

you are lucky on the new barn...... I'm not even allowed to put up a small utility shed because of deed restrictions where I live so my cars are stuck having to share the garage with the lawn mower, garden tractor, rakes, shovels, hoses, and all the other crap that accumulates in a garage!
see here: Garage
this doesn't even show in front of the '65 where the tractor and the wagon have to park.
hmmmm, weather is starting to get warm again so I better get moving fast on the C3 because I need to move that car to be able to get the tractor out again!

Be careful there Barry

Barry,

Sorry to hear about your deed restrictions, but while looking over the pictures of your garage, there are two things that make me shudder.

First is the fender cover you are using. " Napa " supplies these to regular garages in order to get some free advertising, and to use on customers cars when they are in the shop. They are not designed for the high dollar finishes that we use on our Corvettes.

You would be better off spending a few dollars for a " Flannel " bed sheet, and use it on your fenders folded on itself a few times.

Secondly, I am not particularly impressed with the shelving you have OVER the top of your Corvettes, I don't know how they are attached, but seeing the little support brackets you have under the shelves, I am betting they are not anchored in concrete. Can you imagine what would happen of one of them came loose and let go. :ugh

No offense meant Barry, but I had to give you my impressions of your storage area.

Just my two cents

Bob
I'm always willing to listen to constructive advice. :)

I didn't know that my fender protector wasn't any good. I saw it while i was at the parts store one day, knew I should have one anyway, so I picked it up. So far it doesn't seem to be damaging the paint but most likey you are correct that it's not the best one available to avoid any paint damage. It was definitely better than rubbing my rough demin jeans against the paint while i was working under the hood all winter on the car. The car is going back to the paint shop anyway for another wetsandinmg and buffing and after that I'll come up with other type of protection for the fenders such as your flannel sheet idea. :)

The shelves I've never been too thrilled with either but I needed SOMETHING to hold stuff in the garage. I put as many of the anchors into studs as possible but of course not all of them are in studs, the rest just use those drywall anchors than the screws and/or nails go into them.
The shelves in the front are coming down soon (i hope) so I can build some kind of flip down workbench. That way it will flip down (overtop of the tractor there that can't be seen in the pics) when needed but flip up when it's not in use. The other shelves I know I should take down but the problem is I need SOMETHING to hold stuff in the garage and all I'll really be able to do it change out from one type of shelving to another and I'm not so sure that any other type is going to be significanty better.
These actually are surprisingly strong and hold a lot of weight. As I was taking the '78 apart I had the carb, alternator, AIR pump, AC compressor, brackets, hoses, etc, pretty much everything I took off the car all up on the shelf and it wasn't the least bit unstable but I still didn't leave it there for too long before transferring everything to the basement for painting.
Hey, when you are stuck with cramped working spaces you need to make do the best you can!

Hi! Barry

Lets get a car cover on the 65! We don't need a thread on how to repair a scratch or ding.

Cars look great!
