it would be the perfect time. thousands of corvette enthusiasts gathered in one place...it would be the ultimate open or close to the festivities.

Matt......to me, that would be the perfect time. Unveil it at the NCM for all to see. (Although, if it isn't a jaw dropper, what worse place to be than surrounded by a bunch of Corvette Enthusiasts?)

GM wont do that, because that would kill the C5 sales for the rest of the C5 production.

It would take all the focus off that ugly maroon fiasco they are promoting.

YUP;stupid

You mean that ugly Maroon Car that was supposed to celebrate the 50th Milestone? Well at least we know what GM thinks of history. I hope those responsible for the 50th put more dedication in for the C6.

I heard that is GM's intention. I assume it will be at the Nashville show though, instead of the NCM

Yea,
What a letdown!! I mean the 50th is nice, but i sure expected a lot more for a 50th edition. I personally know of a company GM hired to do a prototype 50th that was reminiscent of the '53, I thought it was cool! !! ;shrug Why don't GM pay a little moree attention to those people who will be buying them??:(

No chance of seeing the C6 at the NCM celebration.

Those of you who know more about Auto production plants, please help me work the timeline backwards... If the "2005" C6 goes on sale sometime in July or August 2004 (multiple rumors say mid summer), BG will need to have been producing the C6 for at least a month(?) to build up an opening inventory. How long will the plant conversion require ... three months? If so, that would mean C5 production will stop sometime in April or, possibly May of 2004. This will resort in a "short" production year for the 2004 C5, limiting the risk of stagnant C5 inventory at, and after C6 release time. Expect continued "program" marketing with little or no interest for most if not all of the C5's remaining life.

As it is, the vette populace knows the C6 will have significantly more power and technology plus a new look and buyers will be waiting to be dealer-gouged for a C6. GM has stated that the C6 will be shown at the January Detroit Auto show. Even that seems to be an early nail in the C5 sales coffin to me.

I liked that '53 look also, but I don't think it could have been produced with that look and meet Fed safty requirements. The 5 MPH bumper requirements would have significantly uglied a production offering.

I took this picture at the Corvettes @ Carlisle event last August. It was quite an attention getter.

I have to say of all the Corvette Kit cars out there that 53 look alike one is sweet.

We saw it several times at the Monterey Historic Car Races Honoring Corvette last August. We really enjoyed looking at it. People were always gathered around it in Monterey and at Laguna Seca. A vette-lover cannot look at that car without smiling. I think it is a "fun" design, but it is a totally retro design. For us oldies ... do you remember how you felt when you saw your first C2 Sting Ray? Wow. Why can't GM put us on our butts with a design of that magnitude? I think they have tried with that Cadillac art & science crap, but to me it looks like a kleenex box that someone stepped on. Hope the C6 is much better!!

Wasn't this thread about unveiling the C6 at the 50th Anniv. celebration??? I think we have lost our way to grandmother's house!!! OH well... it's all interesting. :) :beer ;)

I am really with the guy who said that unveiling the C6 at the NCM 50th celebration could be a real disaster if it were not well received by the throng---frankly, everything I have read/seen on the C6 style-wise has been a bit discouraging, and GM's track record with the 50th anniversary model and other cars gives me cause for real concern.

It's hard to say how we will react to the C6.

The critics didn't like the C2 when they first viewed it.

Later, the new 68 C3 was termed "the psychedelic car". Testers faulted the low roofline, long front end, cramped interior, skimpy cargo hold and overall poor fit and finish (result of rushed development). Yet, the C3 is one of my favorites so whose to say? Even if we intially do not like it. It will surely grow on us and in time, it will be accepted. IMHO

The C6 will be a hit, but you don't introduce a new model (the 2004) and its replacement (the C6) at the same time unless you don't want to sell any of the "old" 2004. They (2004s) are obsolete the moment the public sees the C6.
