There is an '85 in my town that is really sweet and has been sitting for a year and a half. It's the 4+3 trans if that matters. I was interested in picking it up if the lady who owns it is willing to sell.

I am wondering what would be the first things to check on a car that has sat for so long. I was figuring flush the gas tank, change the battery... but after that I can't think of anything besides the fuel system that might go bad. I know that moisture will build up in the oil pan and elsewhere... but not much I can do about that...

Any tips on things to check?

I would look at tires. A good set of rubber is a minor set back. About the fluid thing those could be changed. Do you know if the car was started ever during this period. If i think of something else i will let you know

good luck

Look at all the hoses inside the engine compartment like radiator hoses vacum lines stuff like that. Flush of the gas tank is a very good decision in my mind.

A year and a half isn't really that long , but it isn't good to let them just sit like that . As was said , change the gas and check the usual stuff but you probably wont find much that has to do with setting that long . The tires may have flat spots but driving it may bring them out . Sometimes that takes awhile though . Make sure the four plus three is working right . In the past , people have put gearlube in them , where they need transmission fluil and thats a killer for them . If you can , put it on a lift and try to check that . Other than that I can't think of anything . Alot of vettes set in carlots that long waiting for someone to come along and pay big bucks for the cleanest ones , so I wouldn't worry too much about that . Cliff
