Well . . . I've been thinking about selling the '75. I actually have an offer on the table right now that is hard to refuse. After all of the work that I have put into it, I'm kind of feeling that I am ready for a new project.

I'm not sure what it will be, but possibly a C-4.

Anyone want to talk me out of it? Into it?

Ooh, ooh . . . how about a nice '69 El Camino as my next project?

Give my your thoughts if you please . . .

Ron

If ya gonna sell then your new project should be another Vette IMHO.

However seeing it is getting closer to Christmas you could donate that 75 to the MOE FUND and your donation will be received gladly.:D

:LI said that twice and I still haven't sold my car Ron!:L

You know shes got you wrapped around her finger!:L You ain't foolin me:L

Ron,

I sold my '72 over 15 years ago and even though I love my '81; I regret selling it to this day. Even if you move up to a C4/C5, you're gonna wish you hadn't sold the Shark. Well, maybe not if you get a C5. :D

IM(not so)HO. ........... Nut

Keep the SHARK buy a C4. Make It Happen.:cool

Isn't it funny how these things can be such a love/hate relationship? I have not decided yet whether to take the offer. However, I have been thinking about a later model C4 to compliment this one.

There is the work that I have done to it to consider. I kind of hate to get rid of it, simply because of all the blood sweat and tears that have gone into getting it this far. Winter is here, the car will sit most of the time in the garage. Even with typical southern California weather, I don't use this thing much in the winter time. I'm sure that in a month or so, my interest level will be back up . . .

Hmmmm . . . still haven't figured out what to do . . .

I had a 1978 Pace Car, sold it and bought a 1993. Been very happy with it.

As someone told me just before I sold my 68 Camaro and bought my new Corvette, you're only here for a little while--might as well enjoy it. Do what makes you smile the most--or gives you the least buyer's/seller's remorse. :hb

You'll be sorrrrrrrryyyyyy:cry

Don't sell.I guess I am just very partial to C3's. Seeing a C3 cruising down the road is one the most delightful sights!!

Well . . . remember what I said about the love/hate thing?

Well, I've been battling an oil leak for a while. Trying to figure out where the heck it's coming from. With all of the air current under the hood, oil has a tendency to migrate around the engine compartment making finding the source of the leak a real PITA.

Well, I got out there tonight and started tearing things apart. I've been suspecting that the oil was coming from where the fuel pump mounts to the block. Remember on a small block that the fuel pump actually bolts up to the outside of an adaptor plate, which in turn bolts up to the block. So, there are two gaskets to potentially leak oil.

Okay . . . here's the hate . . . anyone who has changed fuel pumps on a C3 can identify with the hate thing . . . geez . . . if my hands were about 3 times smaller and I didn't have to bend over so far and . . . well . . . I'm thinking I should have pulled the engine instead!!

But now for the love . . . now that I have the fuel pump and adaptor plate off, I'm pretty sure that this is where the oil leak was. If so, I'll have it back together day after tomorrow (I have a business reception tomorrow night) so I can fire it up and take it for a cruise to check it out. If the oil leak is gone, then I'm back in love . . .

Yeah Frank, you're right . . . I won't sell it . . . I hate it . . . I love it . . . I hate it . . . I love it . . . but, I won't sell it . . .

But, about that '69 El Camino or C4 . . .

:_rock:LI knew It I knew it I knew it!!:L:_rock

:LI told you so!!:L Been there done that:L

Definitely a love hate relationship. My car has been a major PITA just go get into good running shape but I LOVE IT. Everytime I step out I still can't believe I got one. Everytime I go through those gears I fall in love even more. I am going to miss her when I tear her down to turn her into an absolute beast!

The first time I tried to look for it from the top I could not even find it. When I saw what I had to get thru just to get to it :hb(the hate part). After I took all the stuff off for the cam swap. I wanted to change a fitting on the fuel pump for a better looking one I saw that it was practicly out in the WIDE open I took advantage of the situation to pull the thing off. Now I have a clean nice looking fuel pump (the love part).

I cleaned up the engine bay while I was doing the cam swap and I can't believe it. I want to take a picture and hang it up on my wall:eek

But, about that '69 El Camino or C4 . . .
Now thats a tough one! My vote goes for the El Camino

With one thing and an other I havn`t used my Vette at all this year and it crossed my mind to sell but as the say "absence makes the heart grow fonder"

This is why you will regret selling.

There is something very strange about a normal human brain. For reasons unknown to me we don't have the capacity to actually remember what "pain" feels like that we have had in the past, and we also tend to look back on things in a brighter light than when we are actually experiencing them.

Case in point. "If" you sell the car, you will soon forget about the oil leaks, dirty finger nails after pulling an all nighter, leaks, squeaks, rattles, paint cracks, chips, scratches, etc. You will only think back and have fond memories no matter how hard you try not to do so. Therefore, you will miss the car more than you actually like the car.

The only way around this is to replace it with the absolute object of your attraction. However, I must warn you that when your replacement vehicle breaks down, leaks, oil, etc. you will think back on the 75 (which at this point has become in your mind the best car you ever owned) and wish you still had it.

Strange, but true.

Chris . . . how right you are . . .

At this moment, my busted knuckles on my left hand remind me of the pain, but by next week that will all be gone . .

I still fondly remember my 68 Cougar XR7 . . . man that was the greatest car . . .

Uh . . . except when the timing chain jumped and I had to have it towed 75 miles home . . . or the time I blew a head gasket and had to have it towed 30 miles home . . . or the time . . .

Yep . . . case in point . . . sure wish I still had that thing . . . it really was a great car . . .

:-)

fuel pump

I chased an oil leak around the fuel pump too. I found out a different cause for the leak. One of the holes adjacent to the fuel pump goes through to the fuel pump cavity in the block. You use this hole to thread in a long bolt to hold the pump pushrod in place when installing the pump. If this hole isn't plugged, it will leak.
Hope this helps.

Yes, there are actually two holes on the front of the block in the area of the fuel pump. One goes all the way through to the fuel pump actuator rod. The other, I believe is a blind hole. I think that on some applications, these holes were used for motor mounts (obviously not on our vettes).

Anyhow, the 'plug' bolt is in place. I got the pump off and the adaptor plate, cleaned them up and reinstalled with new gaskets and sealant. So far, it looks like this has cured the leak. I will know more tomorrow after a trip to the office.

On another note, now the knuckles on my right hand are also banged up. This is really bad news . . . I don't want to sound wimpy, but during the day I am an engineer. But at night, I play in a classic rock band - lead guitar. Man, my hands are so banged up, I'm not sure I can even hold a guitar much less play it!!

But at least the vette is fixed. I think I'm back in love . . .

Thanks for all you guy's (and gals) support.
