hey all, ive been thinking........

well, no matter how much i love my 82, im thinking about saying goodbye........... i know i know.. i just finished her.... but, i want something newer that i dont have to build up and hot rod...... im thinking a 98-00 c5.... ive seen them sell for 20-25k, even seen a few in town for less (97 w/66k, 18,500 blk/blk coupe) anyone have a figure what i should ask for the 82?

355 tpi approx 450hp
compltely custom interior w/screen and ps2 all atuto meter gauges cept' speedo and tach. speedo is 140mph. everythign brand new on motor except intake manifold, runners, and plenum. the bock is original but has had ful machine work by professional local shop.hooker sidepipes, well everythign else is in my signature.

ive seen some c3's w/a fuelie conversion go for as much as 15 but i know i wont get that....

so anyone have figures maybe? will post finished pics when i dig. cam gets back from hawaii on vacation w/some freinds lol

Thanks
Tony

Say it ain't so!

I got my first ever ride in a C5 about 3 weeks ago, a 50th anniversary convertible to be exact, real nice car with all the bells & whistles....but it's still no C3 and wasn't spectacular enough to make me think about getting one in place of my 81. If I had a spare 20K burning a hole in my pocket I might buy one for use as a daily driver, no doubt they're nice cars and when they came out I hated them but they do grow on you. But replace the Shark with one? Not in a million years!

The easiest thing to do is just to add a C5 to your collection.

But if you cant then I have some questions for you.

How much have you put into the car?
How well has it been maintained?
How long have you owned it?
Has it ever been in an accident?
How soon do you need to sell it?

Assuming you have service records and/or you have owned it
long enough to prove you have done all the things it needs...
Assuming no accident history and the car doesnt need anything...
I would say you should be able to get $12-13k.

The tough thing about your situation is that you have a "modified" car that doesnt appeal to the general public.

Those types of cars do real well on EBAY.

If you have the time and the patience to sell the car for a specific price... stick your guns until you get it!!!

I'm not in a rush to sell her or anythign, i do want to enjoy her for a while...... but i know that everytime you modify something from stock, it becomes twice as likely to break. and since everything isnt stock......... lol.......... i bought her in about june of 01'...... not a wreck, scratch, dent, anything since ive had her, and carfax came back clear before i bought her the original motor was in good shape when i got it, but i have a lead foot and the stock l83 couldnt keep up. which brought to the rebuild......

i dont want to sell my shark either, ive put time and money into her, about 5500 ontop of the original 7200 i paid for her inthe first place. i thought about ebay but i want her to get a good home to a fellow vette lover that will take care of her (not like on ebay, where a kid can just get it and hot rod the hell out of her till she blows..... like me :) ) so i have about 13k into her, most likely more with the nickle and dime stuff that adds up. but i want a newer car that i wont be as tempted to mod.... and i think a c5 is about the only thing, no curves like the shark, no looks like id get in the 82, not AS impressive when a beastly motor sits underneath an "cease-fire" body. but if something ever happened to her im getting to the point where i cant spend more time and money on it.

i just need a car to drive. i used to have a 98 sebring and a 96 camaro that i could drive on a daily basis till the 82 was done..... but i just sold the last one yesterday and its been making me think, if something happens to the vette, do i really want to drive the 87 silverado with faded paint, dents, scratches, and a horrible sounding motor? (although i can get a plate that says "my other car is a corvette" :D

adding a c5 is too much. 20 years old with about 5 tickets (8 if you dont count the ones i fought and one) which is also one away from license suspension, and driving the 82 alone is still about 180 a month on insurance. im going to make some calls today and get insuarnce quotes, find the cheapest one possible. i also owe abotu 5,000 left on the vette (refinanced last novemeber to pay for the new toys). so i cant have 2 car payments either...... one of 250 and one of 500 ontop of 2000 on insurance might make me stop sleeping and work all day and night...... no time to enjoy either........

she doesnt need anything at all, all is new....... ony 2 things i can think of is an electric vac pump (aftermarket can doesnt work) and maybe some new u joints after a few races =)

ive even thoguht about getting a c4 (91 or so) and buying it outright, thne after a few years get a c5......... by then ill be in a good job field and can start a collection..... my uncle has a 90 zr1 he said he would seel me 2 years ago for 15........... hmmmmmmm wonder what insurance would be on that lol.....

you guys are right....... she is my baby....... maybe in a year or so when this is paid off ill get a c5....... by then a 98 will be around 15k neways ;-) but then there will be one problem, insurance....... where can i get insurance for a 20 year old, with a 82 vette, 98-99 vette, silverado, and a predator atv??? for less than 2 grand lol

You know, a few months ago I was thinking I would end up selling my '79 in a few years, to finance my future '73 project car. But then I realized something: I'm never going to sell this car (barring a major medical problem, or somesuch). I've heard too many people lament selling their first nice car, so I'm not going to fall into that trap, if I can avoid it.

Plus, if I were going to consider spending $20-25k on a used C5, I'd probably just take the money and spend it on the Shark - that kind of cash could result in a very nice C3 :)

finding a bank to loan me 20k on a 82 vette is kinda hard tho lol lil young to get that kinda loan on an 82's equity...... lol

Yeah, I know what you mean. So do it one phase at a time :)

Joe

Keep it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't even think of parting with it, you know what you have and a newer vette is going to have more problems and the expanse's will floor you.

The new vette's are no bargin, and remember the saying about the grass being greener.

Keep what you have, until you find such a bargin that you cannot pass on.

If l had to do it over again l would have bought a C4 LT4, and lived with all of it's problems.
