hello,i have a stock motor, halltech t-1 cold air intake, stock mas with screen removed. i run 13.46 in 1/4 mile. im thinking of going to a larger throttle body. anyone with a similar set up done this, any performance improvement?, drivability issuses?, i also thought about larger mas ends, but i think i remember c4/c5 spec talking about tuners liking the stock size m.a.s.,but i am not quoting him! sorry if this is an old question, im a new member.later Todd:w

Supposedly, the stock MAF and Throttlebody will flow 500hp.
From what I have learned on this forum, the larger Throttlebody is only needed if you upgrade heads, cam, etc. In other words, major engine work that changes the parameters that already exist. Good luck.

hello doneboy. i have a book that says that exact same thing. but i think that is a little misleading. i think it means you can force air through it up to 500hp, but at what point does it start to restrict flowing, not forced though.i dont know if that makes sense. i know my halltech t-1 flows 1050c.f.m., the stock throttle body flows 960c.f.m. i do not know what the stock manifold flows.i know they use the Ls6 manifold on 2001 up, do they also have a larger throttle body? i think my m.a.s. without the screen flows about 1000c.f.m.,maybe i will change the manifold and throttle body.im using the straw theory here and would like the "straw" to be the same size all the way through from my halltech filter to the heads.:hb later, Todd

I have recently gleaned a little more info concerning max air flow on three different intake systems. This is from Vararam, of which I own, and I finding it surprising.
Max Air Flow:
Stock with paper filter 406cfm

Blackwing 518cfm

Vararam 728cfm
Vararam is supposed to be the best flowing on the market. These are supposed to be actual numbers, not estimates.

The largest throttlebody I have seen is an 80mm.

Good luck.

aloha, i had a hard time deciding between vara-ram, and halltech, it came down to water, sometimes,(alot actually),i will head out for cruise day, nice, hot sunny, and clear outside,an hour later on the north shore there will be major down pours.i have my fog light screens cut out,and water will get sucked in there like a wind tunnel:crazy the halltech filter sits just above the opening.i also trimmed the fan shroud around the filter, and the filter is very water resistant,i am an engineer and tested the filter on a vacuum pump at work, the filter has to be completely submerged to suck water, i just couldnt take the chance.as a matter of fact this past sunday it poured for about 25 miles, the water flows down the hood and over the foglight opening like it would if it was to run off your roof if you had no raingutter.:nono like i said i cant take that chance. it was tempting,i explained that to the tech, and he said dont do it. i am very happy with my choice. i race alot, stock motor 13.60,(crappy track),after halltech 13.46,worst is 13.50.:)later<Todd

A stock throttlebody will flow 500hp but it is still more restrictive than a ported one. I had a ported one on my 2000 SS and we took it and put it on my buddys stock 2001 TA and it gave him a solid 10 rwhp on the dyno. Took it off and he lost it. I will intime put a ported one on my 2001 Vette., as soon as the warrenty runs out!

aloha, thanks for the real world input,i am definitly changing my intake manifold,i am leaning toward the throttle body also. do you remember which brand it was? or was it a ported stocker? thanks.later,Todd.

Ported polished and glazed. Guy here does them for $25 bucks. Looks profesional, but you have to give him yours to do and go without one for a day. He may charge more for a Vette I will soon find out when I get him to do mine this summer.
