Anyone know where to get a QUALITY throwout bearing???

When I bought the car in 2001, the throwout bearing that was in there was already starting to chatter, I replaced the clutch, etc.. in 2002 with a LUK setup including the supplied throwout bearing. That one lasted about 9 months and was chattering again when I took the car off the road for frame repairs. When I put the car back together last June (2005), I replaced the clutch arm (the old one had a broken bearing retainer spring), clutch ball and the throwout bearing again (NAPA this time). Throwout bearing is correctly positioned in the clutch arm and properly adjusted. It's already making noise.

Last time I did the small block I used one from the local parts store - probably NAPA - no problems. Is it sitting in the fork OK?

Were you careful to not lubricate your LUK release bearing?

The instructions that came with mine said this:

Lubricate the bearing retainer with a very light film of high-temperature grease applied to the sliding surface. If the inner diameter of the release bearing is made of nylon, do not lubricate

That information is found here:

I've had good luck so far with the TO Bearings supplied by Centerforce.. Now I don't Know if there any better then the rest but so far no problems.. I have one in the 86 now for over 8 years. That's when the new clutch went in do to a crack in the Bell housing.....Factory defect.

I also have a new Centerforce II in the 502 set up and I'm using the supplied TO.

Look like the concensus of opinion (on both forums) is Centerforce, although I'm sure some other vendor supplies them.

I'm sure, just like my fuel pump, I just got a bad one from NAPA. The box had so much dust on it, it was probably sitting on a shelf for the last 20 years. Old grease must have dried out.

You aren't by any chance riding with your foot resting on the clutch pedal are you? A little light pressure won't disengage the cluctch but it will cause the throw out bearing to ride on the pressure plate forks/prongs continuously and wear out prematurely.

I wish it was that simple......:ugh , but thanks for the idea.
