Hello members,
I was thinking about tinting the rear window on my 75 coupe.I don't really like the film type tint,as I have seen too many start to peel.I am wondering if it is possible to have a tinted tempered glass custom made.Is there some kind of legal infringment against doing this,as I have never seen or heard of anyone with this type of rear glass? Thanks as always!!!

Your state law will define what degree of tint is legal and which windows can or cannot be tinted; won't matter whether it's an applied film or a tint in the glass itself.

rear windows can be legally tinted in all states, as long as you have a passenger side view mirror. the film type is the only realistic way, and the days of peeling tint are long since past. have a professional shop do it, and you'll be pleased.

I can only speak from my experience, I had an old beater that was used as a spare car maybe 10 years ago. Its 1st life had been in Florida and all the windows save the windshield had tinted film. When I went to get the 1st inspection sticker the shop put some sort of refraction device on the windows and failed me because the tint was too dark. I had quite the weekend peeling off the film. I have no idea if this is just perculiar to massachusetts.

Hey thanks for the replies. As for taking to a professional shop for tinting, thats what I did.The price quote was $247.00.Seemed to be pretty expensive to me for such a small window. That's what made me think "Why not a custom cut tinted glass".I have seen alot of really dark tints around here,so I'm not worried about going to dark.I'm not looking for a super dark anyways.I do not have a passenger side mirror,so need to check on that.I still would like to know if it's even possible to have a glass shop cut a tinted piece,or if this might be an infringment on GM patent,or whatever. Can anyone answer that question?Like I said, thanks for everyones response.
