Hi Guys,
I have a '77 Coupe with 15"x8" stock rallye wheels and I'm considering going with 16"x8" CragarS/S rims. My questions is can these be used without any modifications such as wheel spacers, and if so what would be the maximum tire size that I would be able use. Also what brand tires do you suggest for street use and great looks with the Cragar S/S's.:confused

Larry,

Welcome to the :CAC!

I don't have an answer for you but I moved your post over to the C3 Mods section to get some better exposure. I'm pure stock but some others here have plenty of experience doing what you're doing and I'm sure they'll chime right in.

If you find actual vintage SS rims, you will need to buy one of those cheap sets of pot metal spacers to go between the wheel and hub/brake rotor. We are only talking about an extra 3/8" or so, but it is just enough to get them up and off the outer ridge of the caliper.

I met a fellow with a set, and he was talking about how nice they fit right on the car. Well, he bought it that way. After inspecting it you could see where the rim had hit the caliper and it had to be "modified" to clear.

You can always dremal/machine out some of the metal, but that is not the most wise idea on the very things that keep you off the pavement at 70 mph.

I realize this is a shameless plug, but check with my friends at www.hvydeez.com They have many different rims that have that retro look, with a unique twist so that you don't have the same cookie cutter wheels as everybody else.
