tire pressure

This is a frequent thread. Lots of opinions on the "correct" pressure. I have an 02 Coupe and set them to what GM specs in the owners manual: 30 psi, cold.

Why do we run a different pressure than what is on the tire?

The pressure printed on the tire is the maximun load pressure.
If you run at the max pressure it will be too hard and wear more quickly in the middle of the tread.
I like 29 - 32 psi, 30 - 31 psi works best for me.

30psi is a good cold pressure, anything above 32 feels like a rock and brings out all the little rattles, creaks and squeaks. Check it often epecially when the seasons change. Buy a good guage that has a pressure hold/release button. I find the dash guages accurate but you have to drive it for a while to get a true reading, by then the tires are heated up making it impossible to use the cold psi rating.

Here is everything a good article about tire pressure and racing:

2002 coupe and after some experimenting I like 31 psi cold. Ram them at 29 psi cold in the hot summer months.
