Hi: I've got a '72 coupe also; This year came with F70X15 tire size.
But those were non-radial belted bias ply tires. You, no doubt, will be using radials to replace them. The sizes I would recommend are either 225 70Rx15 or 235 70Rx15. You can also go to the same sizes, but in the 60 series tires. The original tires were about 271/2 in. diameter. The 70 series radials are about the same & the 60 series are just a bit smaller. The 60 series tires will look real good on the car, provided the car is low all the way around, especially in the rear. My '72 sat up a little high in the back, due to the heavy duty spring in the rear, & the 60 series tires looked small in the rear, so I opted for 70 series tires, so it would look good. Both sizes will ride OK, but the 60 series will handle a little better, due to the fact that the shoulder width of the 60 series tires are wider than the 70 series. So, the choice is yours. Good luck!

The only thing I can think of, is your pixels are too high. Think you can go only to 250. Try that out.

I am needing some new tires soon too. So what made you pick Goodyear GT's? My tires are a little wide, 255/60. They rub on big bumps, but look pretty cool.

i think the 255's may be a touch to wide. the goodyears offer good value for the money. i guess if my ride was a daily driver i would have bought michelin's.

255's Are definetly too big for the front of the '72's. Besides rubbing, you'll lose a part of your turning radius, due to the fact that they'll hit inner fenderwell to quick. Also, your front steering & suspension is in somewhat in a bit of jeporady, due to the extra strain the larger tires produce. Remember, these '72's originally came with small non-radial tires & the technology wasn't there for the newer modern tires.

The 255's are too wide. They were installed, along with some custom 10" wide rims by the dealer, back in 1972. I doubt that the car has ever been driven very hard, or will be anytime soon.

I do need new rubber and would like to make it a little more reasonable, but I think that would mean new wheels too.

Not sure what I want to do.

You can see in the pic (if it uploads), the original spare and the current tires.
