Hi guys,

What are the typical adjustments to make and/or parts to replace in a tilt steering column that has too much play in it? Also, what do you recommend as best approach to repaint the column?

Thanks a lot in advance :CAC

It's common for T&T cloumns to break internally. Call Tom @ Corvette Steering he specializes in rebuilding them figure about $300.

Your car is beautiful, I love the '69 BB in Lemans blue. As far as painting the column, use vinyl dye. It will match the interior, and is almost totally flat, like the original. Nothing looks worse in my opinion, than a column that has been spray painted gloss black, etc. They didn't come that way, and to me is a clear indication the column might have been swapped out at some point in time.

If your column is loose side to side it is a pretty easy fix. You have to remove the top end of the column (wheel, horn, signal ) and you will see the screws that need tightened when you wiggle the column. It is common for all GM T/T to loosen after years of service. If you don't want to tackle it yourself then ask a body shop in your area for the name of the man who replaces their ignition locks. he will usually do the repair for around $60 or $70.
