Put a set of Goodyear Eagle F1's on the front of the '96. Took it out for a spin yesterday down to Lost Maples State Park in south Texas, about 100 miles from me. The ranch roads in that area are very scenic and a lot of fun to drive. I must say these tires hold MUCH better than I need with my wife riding with me. I plan on putting the rears on in January after I burn a little more off the BFG's that are back there. I go through backs a lot quicker than the fronts even w/out lead footin' it.

The really cool part though is that my rut following is almost cured even though I can feel about 3/8" slop in the wheel. I didn't think tires could make that much difference. Now if I can just eliminate that steering slop....

I just read your post and the part about cruising in January. I was like WTH?:L:L:L Then I looked at your location of Texas and I got jealous cause' you guys can cruise year round.

I'm glad those tires worked out for you. If I may ask, how much did they set you back?

It's uhhh.... still November down here. Just messin' with ya' :L

I got them for $449 out the door for the pair from a local Discount Tire. That's mounted balanced and new metal (stainless I think aren't they?) stems. I had to do a little calling around and take advantage of some price matching between NTB and Discount Tire. Saved me about 20 bucks. I finally went with Discount Tire due to their (supposed) free pro-rated road hazard warranty. If I'd bought from Tire Rack, by the time I had them mounted and balanced I would have been close to the same money with no warranty.

They're $193 at Tire Rack - These things look really cool...

gottom on my GS and I love the way they look and the way they act;worship

I have 4 of those in my dining room right now. The rims are nearby so I'll have my new wheels and tires and I'll see if there's as big of a difference as you guys are saying. Like you were, lone73, I am still under the impression that tires don't matter that much... I'm going to have to experiece it and be amazed :D

I may write off some of the change to the fact that the rear wheels are now 11" wide. ;)

Mike,

What are you currently running on right now? Tires do make a big difference. I switched from Yokohama's to Firestone SZ50's last fall and the difference was incredible. I'm sure you'll notice a difference switching to the GY's and you'll be pleased.

I was going to say that I have Michelin somethings.. . but i couldn't remember the somethings and i got distracted :D

note: I was running on mr. mojo's favorite tires, but needed something wider.

I will be having a set put on the rear of my car this afternoon. I am currently running Dunlop 8000 (bald on the rear). Discount Tire had to order direct from Goodyear because they could not get them from any of their warehouses. Discount Tire was also my best price after tax, mounting, etc. I can't wait!
