top end replacement or repaint first

Was going to repaint my 81 then replace my heads and cam shaft. But now I am thinking I should do the top end replacement prior to repainting? Any thoughts/recommendations.

The paint on my 81 is so so and thats the part everyone see's first. I've been tempted to have it painted until I started shoping . That going to be the most money eating project that I got going. So for me I'll do all the engine and suspension and paint last. Interiour was done last winter.

I'd do the work under the hood first. Imagine if you had a great paint job and while working under the hood you scratched or nicked the new paint...
