I know there are a few top speed threads going around, however I was wondering how fast we go with the tops down. Yesterday heading up to the lake, down a back country road, I decided to pass two trucks which weren't doing the speed limit. When I looked down I was at 90 or so. I decided to hold it to 110. By that time I couldn't hear the radio anymore because it was so loud. My girlfriend had her hands over her ears, and her hair looked like it was in an exorcist movie because it was going crazy. The fastest I have been by myself with the top down is 117.

How about all of you?

Fastest I've ever gone in my '89 with the top down is 110 mph...but I've had a '98 coupe up to 150-ish. I made sure I was on a smooth and very deserted stretch of highway. The car felt perfectly in control! It was fun, but I'll likely never drive that fast again.

Got my vert up 160 once with the top up. I've hit 130's with the top down but once you get to those speeds, you get (or should be :D ) focused on driving instead of listening to the radio.

Yes I admit paying attention to other things then the road at those speeds is not to smart. Althought the car felt great. I had new tires put on in may.

With the top down going that fast I think I would zone out and have full attention on the road.

The 88 went 135 with the top down. The 96 was at mid 120's top down last weekend.

Everyone either likes the vert, or they dont. I dont know why I would buy anything else. If i want a coupe that bad I will buy a hard top for it. I just feel like they are a totally different car with the top up opposed to top down. I love my vert, and wouldn't trade in a cool summers night drive topless for anything.

Any truth to this?

A friend with a 91 Vert said that 120 is the magic number in his car when the turbulence in the cockpit disappears. I had my dad's 87 Vert to 110 before I backed off and the wind was pretty bad.

I know that at 117 it sure as hell was there.
