This is probably already known by most of you fuel aficionados, but an article in the August Car And Driver prompted me to post this informative web site..........

Ken should chime in soon...He is our resident gas guy. He had gas for 25 years before he retired. ;LOL

Chevron Corporation is the first U.S. gasoline marketer to have its gasoline approved as meeting new performance criteria set by BMW, General Motors, Honda and Toyota for "TOP TIER Gasoline."

The program, which establishes criteria for detergency levels in gasoline higher than those currently set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), sets new requirements for the design of gasolines that will keep engine parts cleaner by reducing fuel-related deposits, resulting in better performance.

I always told you to use Chevron gasoline, haven't I? ;)

Well, since Chevron is not available in all parts of the US, from the top tier website:

TOP TIER Gasoline Retailers:

QuikTrip
Chevron
Conoco
Phillips
76
Shell
Entec Stations
MFA Oil Company

This is good information. In my little corner of the US, I have Conoco, Phillips and Shell to chose from. I'm a bit surprised that BP isn't included in this list, unless BP is a retail name for one of the other brands.

Hopefully, we'll soon see Chevron/Conoco, and not a gasoline with some Chinese name on it. ;)

Yeah, I got none of those up here...

Ah, well, I can still buy the Chevron detergent at NAPA, and run it through on occasion...

Of course, that stuff is so strong that it cleaned all the varnish off the inside of my Buick's tank, and plugged the fuel filter...

Got the gas guage float unstuck, though:)

Detergent? Do you mean the additive Techron, Joe? If so, you can't use too much of it at one time, or you're liable to have problems such as those you've experienced.

Once again, if you use Chevron gasoline, the Techroline that's already in the fuel will help keep your injectors clean, and you only have to run the Techron through every year or two. If you shop for gasoline at a bargain though, it's advisable to use Techron more often.

Yeah, that's the stuff. I wish I could buy the Chevron gas, up here, but they don't have any stations near me...

I just used one bottle, and my gas guage got un-stuck. A few fill-ups later, I ran another bottle through for good measure, and started to have fuel-delivery issues.

$12 for a new fuel filter, and a lot of cursing trying to get the old (rusted) one out, and things were back to the way they should be.
