What is a "good" BLACK paint for touching up scratches, etc. Also. I have a small chip on the hood about 3/8" in diameter where the white is
showing that needs addressing. Need to know best way to fix, at least temporarily. Also, where can this touch-up paint be purchased? Thanks

I used some stuff from Dr. Colorchip. Its not as miracle stuff but works better than anything else I have tried. NO blobs any how. Do google search to find it.

Depends on the severity of the scratch. The chip as you have described will probably need some paint. Otherwise, a good paint guy can remove scratches, I know mine can :)

I've used Plasti-Kote trim black for black touch up (semi gloss, dries fast!). For small or hard to reach areas I spray some on a paper plate and dip a brush in it.

For paint chips I've tried both Lingka and Dr Colorchip with marginal results but, I'm working with Sebring Silver (metalics are a bitch!). I still think the best chip solution is to get a blob on it, sand w/2000 wet (use a pink eraser as a sanding block), seal, rub out sand marks w/compound, buff & wax :thumb

What works for me...

I wet sand the spot VERY lightly in a pea size area (1200 grit). Then, LIGHTLY use the pen side of touch-up paint (ex.- Dupli-Color) and then wet send the top of the divot. You can build it up with a little clear too. I finish the job with 3M Extra Cut 3000 grit compound.

It takes a while- but looks almost unnoticeable when done.

Perhaps GMJunkie will chime in with some of his techniques. ;shrug

Good luck!

I used some from Mid-America Motorworks (MAM). Worked well and matched the factory color code well, too.

Black shouldn't be that bad .I tried Dr Color Chip on quicksilver and I wasn't impressed .Actually Junkie did a small chip on the same car with Dr.chip and he wasn't impressed either.
