I have a ZZ4 in my '80. Would taking off the carb. and adding an 85 to 91 TPI sytem give me lots more power and way better gas mileage? Would it just fit on or would I have to change cam, heads etc?

Would give you less power (TPI starts running out of breath at 4500-5000 rpm due to limited flow capacity), better gas mileage and driveability, and LOTS of hassle with computer, sensors, and wiring by the time you get it working right.

F/i

I have F/I on my '73 w/zz4 and it's a daily driver. I probably did lose some bottom end with my setup but I have a mid to short runner "Tunnel Ram" intake from Street & Performance. I hope I can remedy that with a chip from them. My problem now is that I am running an Accel DFI gen 6 ECM that is "beyond difficult" to adjust. I am planning on switching over to a GM ecm in the near term and getting the new chip. Should have the best of both worlds then.

As far as power you can get the same or possibly better with F/I but it is gonna cost you. A carb is probably still the best bang for the buck but in my case F/I made my car a "Fuel Injected Stingray" and that alone was important to me. I love tinkering with it, looks pretty cool under the hood too.

there are several folks here that have made the swap and can help out with advice if you decide to take the plunge. As John said though I would probably steer clear of the stock intake unless you want to modify it.

good luck.
