Reached a balmy -2C today, tomorrow is Feb 14th, my baby's 1st birthday! (2008 Black Z06)

Have registered for a perf 2 day driving course coming up in May and beginning to think about what prep is required if any. If any of you have experience with what works re tire pressures (am still running OEM GY's), OEM brake fluid, or whatever else you can think of would appreciate some feedback. Even stories of your 1st track experience may prove helpful.

I urge you to replace the OEM brake fluid with ATE Super Blue brake fluid. Super Blue has a very high boiling point. I learned this the hard way when I fried my brake at Watkins Glen with OEM fluid. Also make sure your pads are fresh.

Will put brake fluid change out on the top of the list. Any thoughts on increasing tire pressures? What has been your experience?

If anything, I would think decreasing tire pressure would be the way to go. It is not unusual for drag racers to decrease the tire pressure in the drive wheels. Bigger contact patch with the tires that way. Do not know if it will help with road racing though.

Enjoy your weekend.

I have been taking my vettes to the track for several years now. In the beginning, I started out with running completely stock (tires, pads, fluid, etc). It was fun, but as I started to change a few things, it really became fun. I strongly recommend that you change the fluid to ATE Super (blue or gold), change the pads to Hawk DTC 70 or even just their HP's. These changes will help prevent brake fading. Next, look into getting a seperate set of wheels and competition tires for the track. There is no substitution for good sticky rubber on the track! Try CCW Corsairs (C10 or C14 package- both 18"x10"/18"x13") and choose a variety of rubber to fit. You can save some money on wheels by going stock size, but you will be limited to only Hoosiers (the best, but don't last). One last thing to knock off a few second from your laps- a belt bar with a 5-point harness. Look into Brey-Krause bars. It installs and removes easily. All of these preparations will give you confidence in ripping down the track the way the Z06 was meant to run.
