Can anyone give me a idea what might be wrong with our 97 coupe before I head to the dealership. I would like to have some knowledge so I don't get totally screwed over. First of all two years ago we had pads and rotors replaced and then last year and the same job done again with only about 6000 miles on the brakes. The service tech said it seemed as thought the traction control was coming on alot or just staying on. My wife drives the car 99% percent of the time and said she never noticed it, but now we both seem to think it is doing it again bcuz it seems like they aren't quite grinding but it feels like they are scraping(No noise though) while off the brakes. Also the traction control and abs light keep going on when we hit a bump(Hub steering sensor inside rotor was replaced 2 years ago). And lastly on just this past Saturday I was driving when suddenly the traction control kicked on (I was not driving aggressive) and the dic said "reduced engine power or output"(one of the two) and the car would not go over 1000 RPM. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SilverC5,
To further C4C5Specialist's suggestion, we have a useful thread that shows you how to obtain codes.

CLICK.

Also, We did have the steering column problem fixed too.

SilverC5,
The "H" at the end of each code means it a "History" code- it is not currently active. And many of the codes you found have nothing to do with the Traction Control System. Let me give the ones that have nothing to do with the TCS or PCM systems first:

BCM - Body Control Module
U1160 Loss of Communications with LDCM (Left Door Control Module)
U1176 Loss of Communicaitons with RFA (Remote Function Actuation)

A0/LDCM - Left Door Control Module
B2252 Key Cylander Switch Fault
B2262 Horizontal Position Sensor Fit
B2282 Battery#1 Fault
B2284 Battery#2 Fault
U1064 Loss of Communications with BCM (body Control Module)
U1096 Loss of Communications with IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)

A1/RDCM - Right Door Control Module
B2283 Battery#1 Fault
B2285 Battery#2 Fault
B2265 Horizontal Position Sensor Fault
U1225 Serial Data Line Malfunction
U1064 Loss of Communications with BCM (Body Control Module)
U1016 Loss of Communications with PCM (Program Control Module)
U1096 Loss of Communications with ICP (Instrument Panel Cluster)

A6/SCM - Seat Control Module
B0851 Battery 1 out of Range
B0856 (?-Did you mean B0846/Battery 2 out of Range)
B2197 Seat Reverse Switch Shorted to GRND
U1064 Loss of Communications with BCM (Body Control Module)

Have you had problems with your power seats (seat memory, key fob recognition, moving the power seat)? If so, how long ago was this, and did you get that problem addressed?

As for the Traction Control issues your having, the relevant codes are these:

PCM - Powertrain Control Module
P1518 PCM to TAC Module Serial Data Circuit
P1571 ASR Desired Torque

TCS - Traction Control System
P1281 APP Sensor 2 Circuit Performance
U1016 Loss of Communications with PCM

As I said, even these are showing an "H" next to them, which would seem to indicate they are no longer active error codes in your system. Therefore, why you'd be experiencing Traction Control Problems now, I cannot say. I'm going to suggest that we flag this and ask C4C5Specialist to give us his opinion when he gets back online in the morning.

At a minimum, make a list of all these codes (including the ones not related to the Traction Control System) and take them into your dealer for their analysis. In the meantime, hang tight- I'm sure C4C5Specialist will have some good advice for you.

Ok thanks Patrick..Will wait for c4c5 to get back to me..Have a great night..Dave

Hi there,
The P1518 is your key here.
This tells you that the TAC module, which is the smaller of the 2 in the pic below, is NOT talking to the PCM, which is the larger.
Now, there is at least 3 different reasons, I will give you the most common here.
First, the TAC module itself is bad and shutting down, not talking to the PCM.
Second, the wiring harness you see routed to the left and up, could be rubbing on the PCM, grounding out the circuit, creating the condition.
Third, your ground source could be loose, which is G106. This is located at the side of the engine, passenger side above the starter.
I would also make sure your battery terminals are tightened to 11ft lbs.
The other codes are as a result of the P1518, EXCEPT for the P1571, you will see that code as history all the time and is normal.
Allthebest, c4c5:bang
