I was interested in a possible tranny swap in my 80 vette. I have a built TH-350 with reverse valve body and 2300 stall converter. I was thinking about a manual tranny swap and asked my local vette shop what that would involve. They just happened to have a wrecked 80 vette doner car with 4 speed in it. What is the stock type 4 speed tranny for an 80, non-cali vette? The option that year was a MM4, whatever that means? Is it a Muncie, T-56, or niether? They mentioned total price including labor @ $1400.00. Is that good or bad? If I decide to go for it should I replace rear end gears, they are currently stock 3.07's. Also, did it have hyd clutch? Thanks for any help!

1400 bucks dont sound bad.I belive the trans should be a borg warner T-10 with a aluminum case. also have em swap the rear half shafts if there any good from the donor car,The manual trans half shafts were beefier.BTW the 3.07 gears will be ok mine ran low 14s on street tires with a 2.72 gears spinning like mad LOL!
Stock four-speed was the Borg Warner Super T-10.

Hey ferndog. What shop did you take it to? I've been considering some kind of tranny swap, although I haven't figured out whether to stay with an auto with overdrive or go to a stick. That price sounds really good. I may give them a call.

i would like to be lucky to find someone in florida or nearby,who really wants a automatic instead of the 4 speed. then just swap all the parts ....alas not lucky in life
