First of all, this is my first thread (newb-ness!!!)

Recently, I blew out second gear in the stock TH350 trans in my '77. I found a local guy with a used motor and trans out of an '81. I did the trans swap at work, and I noticed one major difference: a squarish electrical connector on the top of driver's side of the case. My questions are these:

Firstly, what kind of transmission did I put in the car?
Secondly, what does that connector do? (Overdrive?)
Next, if it is for OD, how do I hook it up (I've been told it's possible by converting voltage to 5v and hooking to the trans somewhere)?
And lastly, what other differences in the tranny should I know about?

Thanks, in advance, for the help.
Rob

The connector is probably for the torque converter clutch (TCC) which the very late model 350s have.

As for hooking it up...you'd first have to get the 81s transmission control electrics in place before you can use the TCC on a 77.

The TCC connection locks the torque coverter. It's a simple 12v soleniod--you can make a manual switch to engage it on the highway with ease--you should yield 1-2 mpg improvement.

Also. B&M makes a switch just for that.

And you might also want to check out :

TCI® has developed a universal lock-up system (Part #376600) that allows the TCC to be controlled automatically using a valve body pressure switch and an engine vacuum switch.
