Can anyone tell me where to look on my 81 tranny to identify it? I want to order a lock up kit for it but I want to make sure its the original tranny first. Thank you.

Richard, the vin # for the tranny should be on the right hand vertical surface of the oil pan.

If it is the original tranny, there will be a four pin elecrtical connector on the driver's side about six inches behind the shifter linkage. That is where the lockup kit is connected. If you need a lockup kit, PM me. I have a brand new lockup kit from Bow Tie Overdrives that I did not need for my 700r4 install. God bless, Sensei
