Transmission oil cooler

I have found that my manual transmission oil cooler leak is coming from the oil cooler pump on front of transmission. Does the transmission have to be dropped to change the pump?

Yes.

I should add that pulling the trans is a difficult, but not impossible, job for a DIY.
