I've noticed that sometimes we here in the West get certain shows a week after the east and central folks do. I apologize right now if this is the case for "John Ratzenberger's; Made in the USA" (yeah that's Cliff from Cheers). On the Travel Channel's Tuesday night lineup, our former mailman buddy is heading to Bowling Green's Vette plant. I have no idea when this was filmed, but I would be surprised if we get to see a C6. Regardless, it looks more interesting than anything else that night!

ttt........

I didn't realize it would only be a 10 minute segment. I did learn a lot though. 3 min to mount the body to the chassis ... not much robotics. Really makes me want to get the museum delivery. I like the idea of watching it being built (they said 3 days!) and then being the first to start it - very cool.

Ya, it was very interesting to watch !!
I never knew you could be the FIRST person to ever start your own car and get a birth cert !!!
Maybe I will have to order me a new Vette ;LOL

Thanks for the heads up Longtimer. We visited a few years back and my wife started someone's car!!! The show could've been an hour long. :)

Nice Pic Rocket, are you warming to the look of the C6 yet? Order mine last night, should be here next week. Red Z51 with tan interior. Matel is swell.:L

Susan and I went back in October and its pretty cool.
She got so much more out of the plant tour that I thougth she would.
Alas, she didnt get to start the vette on the line.
We learned that if ya stayed at the rear of the group, ya got to see more. (werent hurried along by the tour group leader)

I highly recommend that trip to BG, KY to all of ya if you have not been!

Good one Longtimer!!! Do they make other colors in the scale model? Just changed that sig pic...I got a pic from a friend of ours that I just had to use as my sig for awhile now. The C6 is OK but I'm not sold on the looks just because it's a "new car".

Jan. 3 of '03 was my second time through the plant. There was a guy in our group that worked there, but was on his day off showing some family around. We got to talking to him and he ended up getting us some serurity passes and showed us a lot more that you don't get to see in the tour. We got to ride in a brand new zo6 and coupe on their "test track". We also got a few pictures taken in a 50th ann. coupe and vert! It was one of the coolest experiances ever!! (I'm in the driver's seat and my cousin is sittin shotgun)

So far I've only seen Silver and red....
1. I have quite a few 1/18 vettes, Chaparrels, and muscle cars from various manufactures. This mattel is easily the lowest quality and worst detail I own to date.
2. The red is VERY reminiscent of that blood red on the '84 C4 - no yellow orange at all. Not bright at all. No depth. Not interesting. This is just a model so Mattel could have missed the color, like they missed the quality. If this is Precision Red, I think I'll take mine in Mag Red II.

The first to start you new car???

I'm not sure that a Museum delivery allows you to be the first to start your new car. As I understand, any car destined for a museum delivery is first sent to a local Chevy dealer (about 25 miles from the Museum) who preps the car. Althought the car arrives at the dealer by truck (with about 1/2 a mile on the odometer, it is typically driven back to the museum. So when you take delivery at the Museum, the car has around 25 miles on the clock.
I may be wrong about this (it has happened before, :D , but this is the information I was given yesterday by a dealer that has supervised quite a few Museum deliverites.

OK, it's 7.20 am in California. That's the only excuse I have for the awful punctuation in the above post. Oh, I'm so embarassed!! :cry
