I know that you can have a twin turbo system installed ona C5 by lingenfelter for aobut 50k. But i was wondering if there was any other shops that can set up a twin or single turbo system a little cheaper than 50k. Also I don't know too much about turbos and super chargers and the benifits and disadvantages of each one. All I know is that it seems easier to find/get a super charger for a C5 than it is getting a turbo. Which is better and what is the difference?

a turbo is powered by exhaust gases and as the engine RPMS go up the turbo spins faster providing more boost
PROs: you can wind them up for a high boost launch, tons of hp

CONS: you must get special exhaust headers to adapt the turbo, if air is boosted from the exhaust it is going to be extra HOT, large intercoolers is a must, normally have to do ducting through really tight places

a supercharger is powered by belts, also the higher the RPM the more boost you will get
PROs: the air is cooler right after supercharger, easy to install, fits under hood with no other modification, many types depending on the $ you want to spend and what used for, cheaper than turbos

CONS: still must be intercooled to get best performance, computer mods are a must to match extra fuel with the extra air you are pumping in the engine

here is some ino to start,
for trubos check out lingenfelter
for superchargers you can check, magna force, ATI pro charger(personal choice) or even lingenfelter makes one

There are other companies that are doing C5 turbos. From what Ive read on corvetteforum.com Xtreme motorsports has a good kit out for about 8k. Id stay away from the Cerra kit.

I've been looking at Turbos for corvettes and there are not many that i could find there a few cheaper twin turbos for like 12k and then high end ones for like 50k and i was wondering why is there no single turbo kits? Is it because it is not possible to put them in a corvette or is it just cause no one has decided to make one and they just been sticking to twin turbos? I have no idea how to make/install turbos and what they connect to and all that good stuff i just love corvettes i'm not gear head (yet atlease) so I don't know why there aren't any single turbo kits. Has anyone seen a single turbo kit for a C5?

Checkout the May issue of Vette magazine. or try www.vetteweb.com they have an article on the ATI Procharger

if you really wanna find out about this stuff, visit the C5 Forced Induction forum at corvetteforum.com

there are not as many single turbos because then you have more resistence on one bank of exhaust and none on the other, I think they like to balance the exhuast restriction

you see a lot of single turbos on 4bangers because they have one exahust bank which makes it easy to plumb and equal resistance all thoughout

packaging is also an issue due to the larger size of turbo needed when running a single. TT setups can make more power than you'll ever need. ;)
