U.S. judge refuses to kill lawsuit over ownership of vintage Briggs Cunningham Le Mans Corvette racer

A court battle over ownership of a rare vintage Corvette that raced at Le Mans, France, 53 years ago is revving up after a federal judge on Wednesday rejected a bid to stall it out.
U.S. Middle District Judge John E. Jones III kept the case on the track by denying an argument that Dan Mathis Jr., a Florida man who claims the 1960 'Vette was stolen from his family in the mid-1970s, waited too long to file a lawsuit claiming ownership of the car.
The legal fight has been raging since August when the 'Vette surfaced during a promotion for Corvettes at Carlisle, one of the collector car shows sponsored by Carlisle Productions each year at the Carlisle Fairgrounds.
Lance Miller, co-owner of Carlisle Productions and a participant in the most recent sale of the now-bedraggled sports car, was originally named as a defendant in Mathis' suit, but has since been freed from the case. Carlisle Borough and its police department also have been released as defendants.
