I was at a tuning session yesterday and where it was held my car had to be under trees most of the day. Now I can feel little bumps of tree sap all over my previously perfectly smooth as glass new paint.
What's the best way to get all the tree sap off??!!

Hi BarryK,

I had alot of sap from parking under a tree just like you on my 1970 with about a 2 year paint job. The problem I had was I didn't notice it and stored it for the Winter. When I took the car out...YECH!

I used 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner #08984. Try a small hidden area first to make sure your comfortable using it. It has a strong smell which kind of scared me, but it worked great.

I put it on and wiped off, then it took a second time to wipe it off. It may be easier for you since you noticed it much sooner.

Didn't leave a mark and the paint was untouched.

Hope this helped!

Chuck

Barry With all of the sun your car seen at carlilse I would say your paint is getting nice and hard ,try a simple car wash first as if it wasnt even there.

As you know dont wash the car in the sun. Dont scrub the sap hopefull it will melt off, with a simple wash.

Chuck and Larry

Thanks for the replies.

Larry, you were right, between the paint getting nice and cured and with the fresh wax I put on just last weekend for a show I was attending it washed it very easily! It's nice and cool and cloudy outside here currently so I went and gave the car a good wash and the sap just came right off as you said it might :beer

I guess I got worried over nothing but you know what I went thru for this paint so I worry about every little thing anymore. The good news it the paint is still virgin and still no chips at all after approx 1000 miles :)

WOW! this thread can actually end now after only a few posts rather than my typical 4-5 page soap opera type threads! ;LOL

You know I always say

Start with the basics,

yep, always the best place to start isn't it :)

with the sap off the paint, she will look good for a show tomorrow I'm going to in Ocean City, NJ.
Mark's (VNV) vette club is having a show I'm planning on attending that will have all the Vettes there parked on the actual boardwalk all day.
How cool will that be having the vettes at the edge of the ocean all lined up on display on the boardwalk! :D

Chuck I understand and I can see where having it sit all winter could cause major problems. I guess that's a good reason to make sure to wash and wax it before putting it away for winter storage.
i'm glad to hear yours came out alright though.
i'll remember your tip though in case it happens to me sometime again and it gets accidently left on too long also. :beer

BarryK,

You don't know the situation why that came about. It WAS washed and it WAS waxed before storage. It was sitting near the storage garage 1 week before I garaged it for the Winter (had to take advantage of the chase vehicle's schedule). I just didn't notice the SAP tree.

I'm not looking for a lesson here, I've learn't mine!

For anybody that gets into the same situation, it will work and it didn't harm my paint at all.

Chuck

I learned mine too - avoid all trees! ;LOL

We won't even discuss what one particular bird up in the tree decided to do to my car too while it was there..............

The OC Boardwalk show is a BLAST !!!! By all means -- go. Make sure you get there on time. There will probably be 250 vettes there. Unfortunately, I am leaving Sunday at around noon on a business trip and can't make the show. Make sure you and Linda try the following while you are there 1) Mack & Manco's Pizza 2) Johnson's Caramel Popcorn.

Darn, I hate it when work gets in the way of things.

John
sorry you won't be there tomorrow. I was looking forward to finally seeing your car!
Linda won't be able to make it tomorrow either so she will be disappointed to miss the Caramel Popcorn. I guess I better bring her home some :)

COOOOOOOOOOOOL is right! Bring your camera!!!
