Callaway Competition Presents New Z06.R GT3 for FIA Homologation

Today in Monaco, a new Corvette Z06.R GT3 race car, prepared by Callaway Competition of Leingarten Germany, was presented to the FIA as the sanctioning body launched their new GT3 European Championship Series. This innovative new series will commence for the 2006 season, alongside the FIA GT series, at selected European race tracks.

In this series, race teams will enter world-class sports cars prepared for competition by vehicle manufacturers or engineering companies. These racers will compete against each other, within the same marque, for "mini-cups". At the same time, the teams will be racing against the other marques entered. So there will be "single-make" podium positions as well as FIA GT3 European Championship trophies for the overall podium finishes, culminating in a "Cup of Cups" award. Corvette racers will be racing among themselves as well as against the fastest sports cars in the world.
At the announcement, the participating manufacturers and engineering companies presented their race cars, including the Ascari KZ1R, Aston Martin DBRS9, the Callaway Competition-prepared Corvette Z06R GT3, the Dodge Viper, the Lamborghini Gallardo, Lotus Exige, Maserati Gran Sport Light, Porsche 997 and the Venturi Heritage. Homologation begins tomorrow at the HTTT, Paul Ricard.
The 2006 schedule includes races at:
May 7 Silverstone, Great Britain
July 2 Oschersleben, Germany
July 30 Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium
Sept 3 Magny-Cours, France
Sept 17 Imola, Italy

Ready for racing

...Stay tuned for more on this exciting prospect for racing history! :cool :v

Ernst (Director of Callaway Comp) told me they worked night and day to get this car converted from a street car in less than 6 weeks. They are building 6 more of these for an organisation which is called Corvette Motorsports. It is bacically Carsport in Holland, who are very sucessfully promoting the 2004 C5R ex-factory car in FIA GT and some people from the European Corvette importer, who have founded this company. There was a journalist covering the development of the car in Germany and you should see a story soon in one of the popular vette mags. The only thing that really tips you off that Callaway is involved is the exhaust tips. I am very much looking forward to watching the evolution of this car...it is so nice to see Callaway involved in some form of racing again....

I could not wait for this one....

Here is a few shots of my latest project...Thanx to a Callaway owner for donating the models to get started...

Is the driver by any change Mike Heezemans? A few members from your dutch forum "go karted" at his centre and at the finales he raced with us. (a friend knows him) Oke he started last and finished first but a very nice guy also to talk to! He raced the 04 C5R in the FIA compatition overhere last year. He sayed when we where there his new corvette was still in the proces of building :) Maybe 3 weeks ago..

Groeten Peter.

...as cool as the racing effort is, wait until you hear "the rest of the story", as Paul Harvey would say ;)

The European series will kick off soon, as the schedule posted above indicates - A few of us had the privilage of glancing over the press book for the series which was an amazing 1/4 inch thick - I like where this is going!!!

...and wished I had a photographic memory for all the amazing details!

Remembering the (Callaway) racing in the mid 90's, this is looking like exciting times for that again! :cool :v

Thanks Michael for the overseas update(s) :m

...stay tuned :cool
