My 72 has been repainted (before I bought it) and I am not sure what the correct paint scheme is for the underside of the hood. Did the 72's have hood insulation? I was wondering if anyone had a 72 that would take some pics so I can figure out what it's suppose to look like. If there are some pics of the hood somewhere on the web I cannot find them. I also need to know about the latching mechanisim. Is this painted or what? There is no info in the CTIM&JG. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance,

Michael

The underside of my hood is painted black and has some texture to it...not smooth & no insulation...The hood support isn't painted and its silverish in color. I think that the hood support that connects to the hood itself is only supposed to be mounted with one bolt (even though there are 2 bolt holes) according to NCRS.

Michael, may I suggest picking up a copy of the Vette Vues Factbook 68-72, its loaded with pictures of vette's in original condition...also the NCRS 1970-72 Technical Informational Manual & Judging Guide...no pics, but some drawings and LOTS of descriptions of what is supposed to be...

Paint???

Yea, you are correct. I finally found the description in the NCRS Judging Manual. It looks as if i'll be doing some painting/stripping in the future. As far as the black phosphate and zinc finishes go I can get those done at work. Sometime it helps working for a electronics company. Thanks for the help

Later.....

You are correct, the back side of the hood is supposed to be a semi gloss black. The easiest place to get this paint is Eastwood but GM also makes THE black that was used originally on it but both are equal.I usually tape off right where the top skin and the bottom are mended togther but if you are going NCRS I beleive that it was taped off like I say only until it gets close to the hinges and hood prop. Then its a fuzzy overspray edge all the way around the front edge.
