Can anyone offer any comments on the following problem? Have 8,600 Mi on OEM GY's, both rear outer tread down to 2/32, inner down to 4/32, fronts outer down to 3/32, inners 5/32. NB that when new they are at 8/32. Don't do burnouts, but have been to 4 lapping days with plenty of track time. Rest of mileage is mainly hwy. Have 4 Potenza RE50 on order and want to ensure even tire wear on this set. Given that inner tread wear on tires represents ~ 2/3 of useful wear am kicking myself for not paying enough attention earlier on to resolve the problem. Dealer told me there are 4 alignment settings for Z06, Street, Street & Track, Street & Aggressive Track, and Track. Given that I have 5 track days lined up for this summer, am considering Street & Track, but am afraid that might not be the answer. Again any thoughts of why the tires wore so unevenly?

Hi there,

Track events tell you everything.

Your excessive wear from the outside corners indicate very high lateral acceleration. This is a byproducts of your track time.

Honestly, if you have one set of tires for track and one set for highway, you will not experience this kind of wear.

Your wear on the street driven tires only would be on the inside shoulder.

Your excessive loading of the outside shoulder during high G lateral acceleration is what caused it.

Allthebest, c4c5

C4C5Specialist has a great point about the value of an additional set of wheels and tires.

Lots of guys have their "tennis shoes" (OE wheels with street tires) and then "running shoes" (second set of wheels with dedicated track tires).

Good luck & have fun...

Uh, well...if you run track day road racing events on street tires with stock alignment, what you seeing is normal.

Have the alignment reset to -1/2° camber at all four corners. That will work much better for track days but it won't work as well for normal street driving but I think the net sum will be a slight improvement in the evenness of the wear.

HIb makes a good point~ You need an alignment. The factory settings are quite wide at best (and still within spec.) What you need is a more precise alignment. Also~ some tracks are harder on one side of the tire than the other. (For instance, I did a trackday a week ago and destroyed my tires on the left side. It's a new track in SoCal and I was learning it.)
