Well its been some time since I have updated the restoration, and I will try to make it brief. Currently the car is at Corvette Specialties in Maryland. The dashboard has gotton a complete restoration, along with a new wire harness for the dash. When the dash was pulled we found single wires run to each of the accessory controls. All the same color, so needless to say it not to my liking and a new harness was installed. All the gauges were restored and cleaned, calibrated, and look like new. A new clock was installed, as the old one was held together with tape and glue....still don't understand how it kept ticking....
While it was there, I asked Corvette Specialties to take a look at the engine and rest of the car. Sort of a second opinion, because I was not happy with the performance of the engine etc, Well they did a serious inspection and some more serious items were found when the car was examined. Serious vibration issues, oil pressure issues, and apparent loss of antigreeze out of the tail piple left bank. After further investigation by Corvette Specialties, it was very apparent the person who did my engine, did not do a good job, as it was leaking antifreeze into the nbr 5 cylinder, and the intake was not torqued down on one side. In addition the oil pump was held in by one bold, and screen fell off, rendering almost no oil pressure. All of this was corrected, and the heads were send out and milled and planed. Several other smaller items were repaired, which was a directed result of the person who rebuilt my engine.
I AM pretty angry with the half-as# job that was done by this person who is suppose to be a great rebuilder here in Northern Virginia.
Half shaft was replaced and two were balanced, rear and front bearing were replaced, several other suspension componets were replaced, and the main drive shaft was balanced along with the two half shafts.
Several other minor items were fixed along the way.
I am impressed with Corvette Specialties, especially Pat, who has kept me informed every inch of the way and really glad I had them look over the car for a second opinion.
Now can anybody recommend a transmission person in Northern Virginia. It was suppose to have been rebuilt, but I have my doubts.....
UPDATE: December 30th. The engine started, NO Steam coming from the exhaust, oil pressure is 40lbs at idle, and the engine sound strongest I have heard it....ALL IS WELL with the world ...HAPPY NEW YEAR, next if to fix transi problems of 4th gear popping out when I let up on the gas...think its a linkage issue (I HOPE).
Next Step the Paint Shop, I have got a painter, he specilizes midyears and is in Harpers Ferry, WV. John Sheldon, who only does 2 cars at a time. Mine is scheduled for late January or early Feb. I expect it will cost 8-10 grand, but it will be done right.... John has been working on Corvettes for over 40 years, and sold his autobody shop named Stingray's to just doe about 6 Corvettes a year ONLY.
His work is EXCELLENT, I have seen many of his cars and they are fantastic.
I will be glad when this ordeal is over.....I will never recommend the person who rebuilt my engine. Thank God, Corvettes Specialties has stepped up to the plate and am helping me out.....I will keep all of you informed.
