Well, everything came off the front end of the '81 fairly easily with minimum blood and skin loss! The front end of the frame is pretty clean for just using a little degreaser and a hose, next I get to use some elbow grease and scrub away the 20+ yrs of grime...all in all a clean under carriage. Only had one "surprise" replacement part so far, A-arm shaft. I snapped the bolt on it with the slightest of torque. I may be able to salvage it but if I can't at least it's not a $$ part.
I was having such good success with the front end that, since I was waiting for parts to come back I decided to try the rear. The composite spring went smoothly enough. Then came the snapped bolt at the end of the lower shock bracket...oops. Now the caliper won't come off with out the use of heat, I hope that heat will work anyway!
Maybe I'll just finish the front before I aggrivate myself with the back end!
Let's not forget that this project started with a simple engine rebuild. It has explanded to:
purchasing a crate engine...haven't decided on which one yet
front end rebuild
rear end rebuild
tranny swap...700r4
you know, those brake calipers sure look kind of funky!
might as well do the brake lines
Sound familiar?
