Upgrade can for L48 '75. What's your opinion...

Hello all,

I have a '75 corvette with AT and a 3.08 rearend, now I am looking at getting a new engine in 2 years but at the mean time I would like to get some more power out of the stock L48 without spending too much.

I was reading some other post that sugested a CompCam 252H and performer intake, I already have hooker super competition headers with sidepipes.

What's your thaught on these components ?

You can get the kit for about 225$ cam and lifters and then another 100$ or so for a performer intake, so for a bit more than 300$ I would have something that go's better than the 165Hp now :eyerole

Hello, I see a vette in Belgium Nice!

What I would do is wait two years and spend the extra money in the new engine. Don't go with a cheap ass engine but something with good brands in it. But that is up to you of course.

A H525 will lift the valves a little higher and more quickly and as it is a small cam it doesn't harm the low compression you already have. Same for the intake it will give you something extra but if you'll feel the difference I doupt it. The real problem with the L48's is the low compression, giving it 1 point compression extra will be the best bang for the bucks. Downside is that you'll need or smaller heads or pistons with a little dome or something. Both options aren't cheap.

But what you can do is buy an intake that you can also use on the new engine so you can swap it when the time is right.

And you don't mention the mileage or condition of your existing engine, something I would consider before I put money into it.
