can urethane cement like the stuff used in newer cars be used on mine, and would this greatly strenghthen my windshield frame. Ive also heard earlier vettes used thicker glass can one of these earlier windows be adapted to mine.

Yes, it can, as long as both the opening flange and the glass are properly cleaned and primed for urethane. Before urethane, GM cars used "Thiokol" adhesive for many years; the windshield has been a structural member in the Corvette since 1968.

Assuming your windshield frame is solid and rust-free, windshield urethane (with correct clean/prime) will work fine - that's what has been used in all cars for the last 15-20 years or so; if the windshield frame is rusted out, it doesn't matter what you use as a windshield adhesive - the glass is no substitute for structural integrity. Do NOT use butyl tape (like the cheap glass shops used to use) - GM NEVER used butyl tape - it just holds the glass in and seals it, but contributes next to nothing to body structure.
