We are on a weekend trip in Cincinnati and we drove for 7 hours yesterday. The car did great all the way up here until right before our exit off the expressway. The OD started coming on & off at random on its own. I have never had this problem before and wonder what it could be. I need some advice to see if I can get it fixed before we leave to go home. Any advice is greatly appreciated.;help ;help ;help

If it's going on and off, then it's probably electrical. You've got the switch on the shifter, a relay on the same bracket as the fuel pump relay (on the firewall near the distributor/wiper motor), there are switches on the tranny itself... I would start by checking all of those.

I went through the same thing with mine before, and it wasn't until I replaced the unit that I discovered it was probably an electrical gremlin the entire time. :hb

Thats the problem I have, the connection comes off at the Tranny, finally fixed it with vise grips squeezing the connection and no problem since.

Thanks guys.I just got home. For some reason it didnt do it again all weekend.I was on the phone with last detail trying to get this fixed before I left but it didnt happen again so I was relieved but cautious.Todd at Last detail seemed to think it was something to do with the switch on the shifter but I think it was something else.It started bucking in and out of OD and the light was going on and off so I think it was definitly an electrical problem. The switch had no effect while it was doing it.Now Im worried it might do it on the mountain cruise. We just drove it about 500 miles and it acts fine. :confused

I've had mine do that on occasion, BUT the light on the DIC stays on. The switch on the shifter has no effect. I'm going to check the connection tonight on the OD itself.

I will post a follow up later tonight.
