Hi all:)
Well Today I went and took my 77 for a ride, Nice day high's in the 60's
I happened across a car lot with an 02 in it "tourch red" etc etc," Just out of curiosity i thought i would check it out" ..It was a nice comfortable feeling car
the various guages and computer stuff seemed to all be in order as far as operating properly, The motor fired right up and not a lot of smoke from the exhaust, However when i put it in reverse it sounded like the titantic scraping
the perverbial "iceberg" then i put it in drive and it actually sounded worse "If you can imagine that"."it almost brought tears to my eyes" as to how anyone could butcher such a fine automobile to that extreem in such a short period of time",
The salesman Invited me to drive it and assured me that it was just "noise from sitting"..witch in turn i pointed out my 77 sitting close by, with 74.000 original miles on it, He went as far as to tell me that a 77 wasnt a very popular year and he could work out an almost even up trade with me against my 77, for the 02, I couldnt believe my ears to be honest, while i was laughing i took it for a short drive and sure as **** the rear end locked up, and had to be towed back to the dealership on a flatbed, dont get me wrong Im sure the 02's are great cars "just not that one"..needless to say i jumped back in my 77 with a new found admiration and drove her home feeling like a 6in stillettoe heel, ..shes getting a nice "liquid glass" wash and wax as soon as the weather permits and i hope forgives me
so how was your day???
LOLOLOL!!!!:)
Sherry:)

Sounds like ya had a nice day till ya had to drag the 02 back to the lot.

poor guys - real shame to see a newer model with such problems!

Thanks for chatin -

I'd have traded a plain jane 77 for a damaged 02 any day. This story smells funny. :(

Hi thumper,I guess the reason it "smells funny" Is that i forgot to mention the fact that the 02 had 97.000 miles on it
Most of witch were aparrantly put on it with screetching the tires and tearing
up the rear end and lord only knows what else, transmission? etc, Im sure it would have ended up just bieng a money pit "asking price was $19.000
I'll keep the one i already own
sherry:)

I imagine they will sell the 02 for 19,000 quick as long as the cosmetics are OK. I would trade a 77 for an 02 in a hurry unless it was in a basket...

would you like the address? Its all yours, Im not touching it
sherry:)

Do they have a website? I'm not really in the market but wouldn't that car be priced at roughly half the going rate?

no randy they dont have a website, Its a small used car lot in fairview hgts Illinois , I didnt look the car over a lot but by looking at the other cars on the lot Im sure it was more than likely wrecked at sometime or another, Like i said I was amazed
that he would even concider a trade for a 77 , but then again Im a lil partial to a 77, "witch in my opinion has better styling"..Driving it reminded me of my sonata
No big fenders/no shark look/not near as long of a front end..I just stopped by there out of curiousity when i was over in Illinois getting pc parts, "If ya want" I'll take my camera along next time and get a few pics for ya ok?

Kelly blue book lists a 02 with that many miles at arount $25,000 to $26,000 used retail, so $19,000 is a good deal, even with a bad rear end in it. I can pick up 77's all day long for $7,000 (avg. used) to $12,000 (excellent used).

Be sure and post where it's located as I'm sure that there are members who would be very interested.

GEEee what is this "pick on 77 day??" I'll tell ya what Im stopping what im doing and going to go take some pics"30 miles away" of the car and the lot its on, And i guess I'll talk to the man about putting my Piece of crap 77 with 74.000 original miles on it up for sale as "good for parts" Whats a good price for the old klunker any ideas?, 4.000? 3.500?,..or "will trade for food"..
be back in a few hours
thanks a LOT!!!
sherry

Not really picking on 77's....There's just not much special about 76's or 77's, and their values reflect that. Doesn't mean that they're bad or that I'm picking on them, just that I'd have made the trade, fixed the '02...then sold it... You then could've bought three 77's to take place of the one you had.

But I also understand being attached to specific vehicle...(still would've done the trade....):eyerole

Easy...
It just seemed that a trade of a 77 (or 76, 78, 79 hell, even mine) would be a steal based on reletive resale values alone, not to mention technological properties.

Im back
i got a few pics of it and a pic of the sign above the place, Just to give ya an idea of the establishment, some guy was looking at the same car and
the price to him was 20.000, I still have to upload the pics to a server someplace, and beyond popular bielief the salesman was still interested in my
77 /volkswagen as compared to a REAL corvette, Im going to tell you guys now
that you really hurt my feelings a lot, I dont make fun of your corvettes do i?
Just because i choose to drive mine on a regular basis "rather than just store it
and take a few pictures from time to time, So what its not a collectors item.
and a 77 isnt the utmost in perfection or a collectors dream , I happen to love my first vette and i plan on keeping her until she's either dying or I am, ..I care very little about the "bluebook" prices on what they actually think any car is worth, "ever heard of sentimental value", or pride in ownership?..suppose i was to say the color of your baby was sickining and it gave me the heaves how would you feel???..all in all Im happy with my "old doll" and i wouldnt trade her for 3 -06's..Money is one thing Love is quite another
No offence Intended
sherry:eyerole

Glad you like your Vette. I fully understand "sentimental value". Other people's opinions about my Vette have never bothered me, as I like it and that's all that matters. But I would still have done the deal....:D

ditto jeff, no hard feelings, I felt i should say that
the 02 just wasnt the right car for me
it was comfortable but the feeling wasnt there "ya know what i mean?
sherry

Sherry, From a male point of view,I dont think you should take anyones opinion so much to heart. Thats just my opinion, but, most everyone at this site LOVES his or her vette very much, Some of us, sometimes(when s--t happens) HATE them.Just remember, opinions are just that,;) OPINIONS,Cheer-up SPRINGS COMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
