even though the v.i.n. tag is missing, you can still read the numbers that were UNDER the tag. (they are embossed on the pillar). they match with the title. Thanks for all your suggestions, any more? Thanks again! gary.

You are talking about the numbers on your windsheild post aren't you?

The vin tag was made then attached, there is no way the numbers would be there if the vin tag was removed!

If you've got numbers there , you either have the tag or someone stamped the pillar to match the motor.

I would guess it is probably a shadow effect from parts of the vin tag touching the frame and the raised numbers not touching.

Gary,
I still say that without a VIN tag on the car you could have some major problems. Get in contact with your DMV as soon as possable to get it worked out.
