I have to either replace or refinish the valve covers on my '93. What is involved in removing them? The Service Manual says to remove the Power Steering reservoir bracket on the right side but says nothing about the left side. It's loos like that bracket is clear but the barcket for the altenator appears to be in the way.

I think you can trust the service manual. The alt. is not an issue on earlier models.

From memory that alternator bracket does have to be removed - I did this job a couple of years ago when I had an LT1 but now I have a Callaway Twin Turbo and I've got to replace the valve cover gaskets on this too - doesn't look any easier.

One thing worth bearing in mind on a 93 and this is mega important: the valve covers seem to be made of an epoxy resin or plastic tyope material which can be easy to break or knock a chunk out of.

So make sure you have removed everything that seems to be in the way and don't attempt to lever the covers off or subject them to unnecessary force. They are nothing like as strong as metal valve covers!
