Thank you, "cscarlson" for serving.

And, thanks to all the other military who are currently serving for all you do.

Lastly, for those who've given their lives or have been wounded in the service of our country so I and others here can enjoy the freedom we have, let's all take a moment to think....

...and give thanks.

It was an Honor everday serving my country from being in the U.S.,Turkey.Kuwait, etc... i never forget the purpose or the people. and mostly all who have sacrificed before me.. God Bless The U.S.A.

It's not as easy as it looks....living from a pack, killin bad guys..hanging out with a bunch of alpha dogs....

It's great to hear from so many Air Force vets. I was attched to the 8th air force, 131st bomb group out of Guam way back in 1972 in "Operation Linebacker". We spent most of the time in bomb runs of the Ho Chi Minh trail. We got hit hard from SAM's during the first of 1972. I and my Navy comrades, were almost invisible as we were TAD from NMCB-1 who were also on the island. It's funny, sometimes I lay down to sleep and I can still see one of the HEAVY loaded B-52's run down the runway and disappear beneath the end of the runway, Only to rise up on the nothern herzion.

I am glad that the people today are very surportive of the troops coming home. I and my fellow servicemen came home in 1973 to be spit on and have half empty coffee cups thrown on us along to the curses and cat calls of "Baby Killers" I was on my way home to Philadelphia, My mother had died and I missed my interchange flight out of Travis AFB and had to get a flight out of LAX, some women threw a half filled jar of pigs blood on me. That was the last time I ever wore my dress blues uniform. Yeah, those were the days.

Whoa! IVY A-N-D SCREAMIN' EAGLE! I was with the 4th for about 3 months in 1969 in Pleiku South Vietnam. WELCOME HOME BROTHER!, and I trust that all of you veterans out there had a safe, sane, and enjoyable veterans day, and continue to have MANY more. I don't think that any member of the armed forces joins up EXPECTING to be thanked for his/her service, but this old vet finds it very enjoyable being thanked by people who do not have to do it.
TO ALL YOU MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES, KEEP THE FAITH AND THANKS FOR SERVING!

A.F. Vet

I was in the Air Force but not with quite the glory as others... as a 304 in the 507th TACCS, we just travelled on deployments setting up wideband radio relay networks for exersizes. Does anyone out there remember what a TRC-97 is? :L The troposcatter method of transmission is akin to filling a shotglass with a hose from across the room - 1000 watts out, milliwatts for an RSL. I guess it's all satcom now but I got my electronics training and background there. Drove my '69 427 Vette from Shaw AFB to Keesler for recurring training and the right-rear wheel bearing let go just as I got there! I spent 8 hours replacing the bearing on the stub-shaft at the base hobby shop. That was an experience...

I totally support all our mil-spec people. Not sure about the mission.

Andy, it was definitely a strange adventure for me during that conflict. First of all, the Army sent me over there with only 10mo. to go until my normal seperation date. That was unheard of at my duty station at Ft.Rucker, AL...but they sent me anyway. Once I got in-country I applied for and was approved for an 90 day early out, so I got finish college....so I only was only in Nam 7 months. I was first assigned to the 4th INF in June 1970, then they stood down to come home to the states that fall, but I didn't have enough in-country time to come back with the Div. so they transferred me to the 101st for my last 45 days! I was one scared puppy being bounced around that much as a short timer, but I survived it all and got home in Jan.11, 1971 and was sitting in a college classroom on Jan. 17th. I didn't have much time to adjust, but it's all history now. I was proud to serve and support any and all military today. One of my nephews is an NCIS agent being deployed to Afganastan this coming January. He's a former AirForce security officer that already did 2 tours there several years ago. I pray for his safe return!

Very interresting story Dennis! I spent 19 months there, with 4 years in the Army total. 12 AUG 66 to 11 AUG 70. Was a lifetime ago, now it's almost out of sight in the rear view mirror. Wouldn't change a damned thing even if I knew about agent orange when I enlisted. I had FUN, man!

Most definitely. My daughter followed her Dad's footsteps and is in the AF now. She's a maintaner on B-1s. When I heard she was deploying, I was hating that she went in but massively proud of her at the same time. Thankfully, she's going to Qatar rather than Iraq or Afghanistan.
