Was at a Car Show last night, (I won:thumb) and there were
2 other Vettes there and 81 and a 80 and I noticed the
Vette Symbols on both gas tanks had a fleur-de-lis (hope I spelled that right) enscripted on them along with the Vette flags. At First, thought it just might be a customized emblem, but then I looked on the steering wheel and sure enough, right on the horn same thing........Now I have seen a lot of Vettes in my day, but never like this, not even in all the catalogues I have, can anyone tell me the meaning or the history of having these fluer-de-lis on the emblem. Is there a special reason. Thanks :beer Vette Gal

Whoops re my last note on Vette Emblems

I should have said 80 and 81 Vettes, Typo, sorry!;LOL

:w Vette Gal,

Rather than go into great description I'll post this Link from our History Pages and you can get the exact details ;)

Now the emblem for the 1980 and the 1981 are almost the same, Almost ;) The 1980 has chrome as the basic setup with the crossed flags and them thar French duploours on the other. The 1981 is the same with the exception the setup material is a metal black color with flags and of course them thar duploours :D These are on the Gas Tank Lid, the Nose, Steering wheel, gages and center wheel caps.

Your 82 are crossed flags or in your case the collectors circle ;)

Beautiful Car I can see why you won ;) the 1982 CE's have a GREAT Color combination and interior :dance

Thanks Bud

Thanks for that information on the emblem, I would have never guessed that. Now I know, one guy said it was because Corvettes were built in Quebec. I bnearly choked, but said nothing, as a Canadian I know that
Vettes were never built in Canada! Some of the comments you hear at these Shows, I could just hit somebody, but I bite my tongue and roll my eyes.:bash

Yes I love my CE, I am very proud of her, and she
is 99% original and only 1 of 200 manufactured for export into Canada. I just wish the judges at the car shows knew more about Corvettes and their history that
is why I try to read everything I can on whatever year
Vette that I can to be as informed as I can be.

Cheers for now
Jan

Chevrolet used the fleur-de-lis for years in deference to Louis Chevrolet who was of French descent. If memory serves, 1982 is the first model year the fluer-de-lis does not appear in the crossed flags emblems.
