Is there a way to check a 1958 vette VIN on the web or is there a database that contains registered vettes?

I tried Carfax but they only accept 17 character VINs or cars newer than 1981.

I appreciate y'alls help!!!

Great Forum!!!

Nope, unfortunately there's no database, no production records from St. Louis, and the only information that can be extracted from the VIN is the day the car was built. The NICB (National Insurance Crime Bureau, part of the LEIN - Law Enforcement Information Network) has the shipping date and original selling dealer for every car and truck in the U.S., but that information is only available to law enforcement if they have an active criminal case or court docket number involving that vehicle to authorize access to the records.

So, I guess it depends how badly you want the information. You could always leave the keys in it and then work with NICB to get all the info as they try to track it down. :D

No..........never mind.........bad idea. ;)

We're glad to have you here at :CAC

Not really what I had in mind or would want to do. Just curious.

THANKS JOHNZ for the info. I thought it was worth asking.
