air? on a midyear Vert? ......... i sure wouldn't do it, but it's your car

Since the title of the poll is:

"Would you add a Vintage Air system to your Mid Year?"

I vote yes, and take the hit. However, that's because I've got a coupe. Driving a coupe in FL in the summer with no AC SUCKS! My feelings MIGHT be different with a vert.

I'm going to add it on my 65 but I'm in Texas and I plan on using the car for weekend trips and the occasional cruise night shows...

I used a Vintage Air "SuperCooler" system when I built my tube-frame Grand Sport, and you could hang meat in the car; only downside to the VA systems is that they are inside-air recirc only - no outside air capability.

Ive got a 65 vert and if I didnt have factory air I would of installed the vintage air in a heartbeat. I live in florida and waited to long to get this car to let it sit because its to hot out to drive it. And by the way if anybody can help me Iam looking for a better blower than the stock one. The temp. is plenty low enough I just need a better blower. Thanks, Roland.

It's really a pretty reversible process; i.e., you can remove the aftermarket air systems and go back to the original look with little effect on the car. I bought an Old Air Products system for my 66 several years ago at the Knoxville show, but never got around to installing it, as my 65 has factory air. Just decided to drive the 65 when we needed air. It's still in the garage just in case I should change my mind.

But, as best as I remember from the installation instructions, only takes a couple of holes thru the firewall above the carpet line on the passenger's side to install. These are repairable in the future. Also, the cross braces on the radiator support must be removed for this system, the condenser goes there and provides adequate bracing.

If I didn't have the air setup, I'd definitely install it on a driver.

My thoughts . . . .

Sealawyer,
My sentiments exactly. My coupe would be unbearable without AC in Florida.
