I received a new replacement oil gauge yesterday. The needle is pointing straight up and not at zero. Is there supposed to be a way to calibrate this, or did I get a defective one?

probably when you hook up the guage, it will start functioning correctly. other guages I have put in come with the needle not at zero untill you hook them up.

'69s had a purely mechanical gauge, it should read 0 with no pressure apllied.

You might want to give it a small whack to see if it resets before sending it back.

look on the back side there are sometimes shipping chokes in them, be sure it is free to move.

Thanks for the replies. Just a quick follow-up. The gauge was defective. The needle is indeed supposed to return to zero when the engine is not running. Corvette Central immediately sent me a replacement, and even a UPS label for the return.
