I am not sure about that ;shrug

I had a guy on a cruise once tell me his car was was rare, as it had every option a ruby 'vert could have - He had never seen another one like it...

It has a Hardtop convertible
FX3 adj. susp.
six-speed manual
luggage rack car

- When I told him mine had all that, he said, where's the luggage rack?? ;shrug
Fortunately, that ugly rack was removed when delivered new :wThe rest of those supposedly "rare" options, I have - and then some :D

Hi 89x2

I guess if I was going to alter my car Callaway is one of the options I'd consider.
I've got to admit it looks very cool.
I'm a factory correct freak.I won't list my options here but starting with "1YY67" base convertible I have a total of 46 codes ending in"793" ruby red leather.
My car is an automatic with 9,600 mi on the clock.
I've been doing this Corvette thing since 1974, I've owned 7 and co-owned for restoration / resale about 16 cars over the years.
On the topic of auxiliary hardtops
The numbers for 1993:
Total production:21,590
Convertibles:5,692
Z25 Anni. option:6,749
Ruby Conv. top:2,179 / 38% of convertibles were ruby.
Aux. Hardtop:976
If you apply the 38% to the 976 Aux. Hardtops it comes out at 370+or-.
Not that many out of 21,590 1993 corvettes.
P.S. Have a great Christmas holiday!!!!!:w:beer

This Callaway is one of two ruby cars shipped directly to Old Lyme, Ct from the end of the Bowling Green Assy. line. It was ordered with every option one could specify on the 93 convertibles without conflicting w/ other options.

A fun car for sure, it was recently displayed in the Mobil-1 Spire at the National Corvette Museum this past year :w

Merry Christmas to you as well :beer

Here are the numbers, within a few (about a doz. cars may be missing)

According to the Ruby Red Database at the NCM, the breakdown is as follows:

Ruby Hardtops: The number of records returned is 536

Automatics: The number of records returned is 5030

Six-Spd. manual: The number of records returned is 1708

Coupes w/ Z07 Suspension: The number of records returned is 139

Six-Spd. w/ Aux. Hardtop: The number of records returned is 137

Records do not break down further, the additional options of the FX3 adj. suspension or the luggage rack for my car, so I have no idea how many were made the same as mine was, off the line. I will say it ought to be fewer than 137 cars. and obviously the rarest ruby option combo produced.

It is a shame that the ruby registry has all but dissolved. It used to be a very big organization. :w

You really can't extrapolate the options like that because people don't order them like that.

This is a perfect example. there is a higher than average number of hardtops on ruby cars because the ruby was a top of the line car as it was (sport seats, etc.). if you wanted all the options, that's probably what you bought in 1993... and if you wanted all the options you checked off the hardtop too.

The best example on C4's is manual transmission. only about 20% of C4's were made with them however most of them are coupes. Very few convertibles can be found with 6 speeds, probably 10% or less of the convertible production.

Does this hold true with most yrs or just the 93 Rubys? I have a 90 convertible with 6 speed and often wonder how many were made with the 6 speed.

the only exception is 1996 as the LT4/6 speed package skewed the numbers some.

For fun, take a look at eBay or another sales site... try to find a C4 convertible / manual tranny. You'll only find a couple

I'll even go a step farther and say it's even color specific. If you find a 'vert that is 6 speed chances are it's black or red (you'll find that a good number of triple black cars are 6 speed).

Certain colors are far more prone to autos. For example, take a look at the 1990 - 1991 turquoise metallic cars. Any turquoise 'vette in 6-speed is rare. Convertibles... ultra rare. I think they only made about 20 turquoise 6-speed 'verts in 1991. If you apply straight extrapolation based on percentage of convertibles vs. coupes and 6-speed vs. auto it would come out to well over 100 built in this configuration.

Just think of the average person buying the car new. If the person is picking up a sinister looking triple black car, it's probably the kind of person that wants 6 speed. A bit more relaxed color like turquoise, auto.
